I decided to keep this one close to the vest and not say anything until I shot the gun this time. This is the one I picked up at an estate consignment sale a couple weeks ago. It was still globbed with cosmoline when I got it, the cylinder would not even open all the way. Forget the action, what action?

Anyway, the seller convinced me that all it needed was a good cleaning, so I took the chance.

Went to the range with it today and my oh my, this one is a keeper. Excellent trigger, very accurate, fits like a glove and dare I say, she's purdy?

My first time shooting I was pretty darn close to what I can do with my Dan Wesson 715 8" at 10 yards, almost felt like the gun was teaching me.

Here's a couple pics of the new addition.

The generally shoot very well. I have a 6" that I can put all of my shoots in a 5.5" bullseye from a rest at 50 yards.

The 6" Colt Trooper Mark III is my favorite 357 mag that I shoot. Glad you like yours.

You'll have many years of enjoyment with that Colt. Nice score. :)

Is it the lighting, or is that Trooper stainless steel? If so, that's awesome. I haven't seen one like that yet. I have the same gun, blued. Its my camping/hiking gun. I love it and I could stand there putting rounds through it all day long if I had enough ammo.

The Trooper never came in SS....Well, I shouldn't really say never. It was never cataloged and regularly produced. I think there has been about one SS one pop up on the market over the years that did factory letter.

This Trooper is nickel plated, not stainless. When placed next to my bright stainless Python it is easier to see the soft yellow hue of the nickel against the cool blue hue of the polished stainless.

I know it sounds a bit self-indulgent, but I love opening that drawer :)

I may consider a different grip for the Trooper. It felt real good in my strong hand but I found it difficult to comfortably place my support hand, as if the butt was a bit on the large side.

Great looking Trooper, you did well and the nickel plating adds frosting to the cake. Can't wait to get my Trooper (1979) back from Colt and start shooting it again. :)

I wouldn't even waste ammo at 7-yards, 15 maybe. These guns shoot good. Don't dry fire it as you risk firing pin damage. That's the Trooper Mark III's achillies heel.

I didn't realize it was nickel...I've got one of them, too. I can't say how she shoots, though. It's never been fired.

And here I thought mine was special :p

Think you'll ever shoot it, or collectible only?

I don't see me shooting it and lowering the value. I've got a blue 6 incher to shoot. It came to me in the box also, FWIW.

Great revolver. I've got 3 of them--6" blue, 4" nickel, 6" Electroless Nickel....my "shooter." The stocks are on the large side for my small-side hands. Numrich sells "service stocks", complete with Colt emblem, which look like the stocks that came on the old official police revolvers that I find a lot more comfortable. Enjoy.

Wowza, "electroless" nickel plating, I read up a bit on that. How would I know if mine is or isn't "electroless"? I mean, not that it matters, but I wanna know who my girl's been with :)

fits like a glove
Same here. I love my two 6" Trooper Mk III's. One Blue, one Nickle. Congrats on a great gun. Our grandchildren will be shooting them one day.
