What are my choices for a combination gun?

I have just about everything in my collection except a combination gun. I can't remember how many times I encountered Turkey or flushed a bunch of birds when hunting whitetail in Florida and it seems very practical.

I would probably want .308 or .30-06/12ga but would not be adverse to a general purpose European cartridge like 8x57, 9.3x62, etc.

what do you want to spend? choices range from cheap Russian to hyper expensive heirloom German.

As it is a niche rifle and not a general purpose I am willing to spend $1,200, possibly $1,500. Does not have to me new.

For YOUR choise, i absolutely reccomend you take a HARD look at a Valmet 412,

standard.jpg

They were offered in several O/U combination bbl sets, DR's sets and shotgun bbls. (both 12 and 20ga.) Best part is, all the bbls can work on one action, so you buy the gun and then buy the other bbl sets you want for it.

Other options were single trigger, double triggers (prefered), QT scope mounts (excellent mt) and the best part is, they are VERY accurate!

A Valmet 12, 12/30-06 combi gun can be found in your price range....

Baikal 94. Centerfire choices...

Savage 42. .410 and .22 LR or .22 Mag

Old Savage 24 -- all sorts'a shotgun and rimfire/centerfire combos but haven't been made in I guess a coupla decades. They were a dime a dozen. Now they command a premium to preppers...

There are lot's of choises, BUT the Valmet allows you to beable to regulate the rifle bbl. to the load of your chooseing.

Most of the Savages don't allow ANY adjustment (regulation) and worse yet, MOST of them don't shoot BOTH bbls to the sights at the same time. Aimimg over here to hit over there just doesn't get it for me.

Then there's the problem of NO higher performing cartridges like the 30-06.

European made Combination Guns are available and some are reasonably priced for quality firearms. Germany, Austria and Italy have a number of manufactures that make very nice Combination Guns.

A few manufactures are:

Merkel, Suhl Germany

FAIR (Fabbrica Armi Isidoro Rizzini), Brescia, Italy

Sabatti, Brescia, Italy

As mentioned selection of rifle cartridges is wide, example from one company:

9,3x74R – 8x57JRS – 7x65R – 7x57R – 6,5x57R – 6,5×55 SE – 5,6x57R 5,6x50R Mag. – 22 Hornet – 308 Win. – 30-06 Spring -270 Win – 22-250 Rem. – 222 Rem. Mag. – 222 Rem.

12ga – 16ga – 20ga - 28ga & .410

Something for every hunter.
