I like to carry a handgun when I go trail riding on ATVs, as well as hiking, stream fishing, kayaking, etc. I've used light .357 revolvers, and a variety of semi-autos, but the past couple of years I've kind of settled on a compact .40 S&W as the best compromise for me. I have a Kel-Tec P40 and love the size and weight, but don't care for the DAO trigger and lack of reliability (at least for me - I like my other Kel-Tecs a lot, but the .40 jams too often for me). Lately, I've been carrying a Firestorm (made by Bersa) Mini-40. I find it comfortable to shoot, reliable, and about the right size. I do wish it were stainless or hard chromed and a bit lighter. I'm tempted by the FN FNP-40, but I keep hoping they will come out with the compact model in .40 (so far it is only available in 9mm). I like the Walther P99 Compact, but it bugs me that the magazine holds less than 10 rounds. I don't care for Glock and XD triggers.

I live in CA, so my options are somewhat limited (for example, I can't get the Firestorm in nickel because this finish isn't on the DOJ's "approved list"). I'm thinking of sending my Firestorm off for a hard chrome finish, but before I invest that much in a pretty inexpensive gun, I thought I'd check and see if there are any other models I should consider. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Doug
