I am looking for a compact single stack

Does the XD come in a single stack configuration? Or what compact Glocks are single stack? I already have a Kahr and am looking for something different with a polymer frame...low cap ok.

You can't do much better than a Kahr for a compact single stack polymer gun.

Taurus has the single stack PT-745.

I am a big fan of the all-steel kahrs, maybe I browse GlockTalk(Kahr talk forum) too much, but there are alot of posts with QC issues with Kahrs polymer line...I would love to have the confidence to buy a P9 or PM9, but I don't now:confused:

P9

I have a P9 and after the first couple hundred rounds it has been perfect. Great carry gun so go ahead and make the buy

Gotta throw the Bersa .380 out there. :) Mine carries well in my pocket, and the only malfunction was a burr inside the feed-lip of a cheap aftermarket mag. Since then, nothing.

Not sure what you are defining compact as but if you want a superb single stack you need to take a look at the Sig 239. Sig makes it in both 9mm and 40S&W and they are both top of the line guns. Springfield does not make an XD in single stack but if you wait around long enough they probably will they have sure made a dent into the polymer market. The other gun you need to look at it the Kahr PM9 another great gun.

Good Luck

My main reason for a compact single-stack is concealability(EDC). I've shot some Sigs and really like them, but haven't tried the p239 - it is obviously relatively heavy, but does it conceal well? The kel-tec looks good for summer carry here, but if I had enough confidence I would just go with the PM9 as it is pretty much the same size as the P3AT.....oh choices, choices-what to do..

I would love the Rorbaugh - will never be able to afford it!!

K4O:

If you are looking for a pocket pistol go with the Kahr PM9 if you want a suberb carry gun the Sig 239 is the gun you are looking for. I usually carry my 239 in a IWB without any problems and love it. If I am in the field I will use a pancake under a long shirt. The pancake is a little more comfortable but if I have my IWB positioned correclty and wear a T shirt under it there is no problems with that one either. If these carries are acceptable you wont be disappointed.

S&W 3913/3914 are excellent small, single-stack autos, but like the Sig 239 have aluminum frames. In the polymer-frame crowd, the discontinued Star Ultrastar would fit the bill.

From this I gather that you like your K-40 but want something smaller and lighter, hence the plastic grip frame option. I know what you mean, I am a big K-9 fan but I would prefer a smaller and lighter carry gun as well but still in a major cal like 9mm.

Here is the bad news, I haven't found anything that is smaller and lighter than the Kahr K-9 that I would trust with my life. Kel-Tecs are all out because they are unreliable junk. The plastic Kahrs are also not very well made and the one I had was not reliable. The Glock 36 is freaking HUGE! I don't see how a gun that is only slightly smaller than my SIG 220 can be called "compact" The Bersas are good guns but they are only .380 not 9mm. The Maks are reliable but heavy and have poor sights and triggers. The Sig 239 is okay but the Kahr outclasses it and weighs the same and is slightly smaller anyway. The S&W 3913 is a great gun but larger than the K-40. The Roabaugh is very expensive but it looks like a good gun. I don't have any other info on that one however.

As you can tell, I have been down the same road as you. What do I carry when I feel my K-9 is a little too heavy? My S&W 642. It is the only thing smaller and lighter than a K-9 that trust. I would trust a Bersa 380 too probably.

Sorry but other than the snubby route, you are going to be playing a chance game on reliabilty when you go much smaller than a Kahr K-9/K-40.

I loved the size of my K9 but couldn't shoot the darn thing. I carry a Kimber Aluminum Compact. Its a little bigger than the Kahr but I can put the rounds where I want them.

How about the Star BM...an excellent little gun at a bargain-basement price. Yes, Star is out of business and, supposedly, parts are tough to come by. Hell, at $150 a pop, you could buy one with two spares for parts and come in less expensive than many of the pistols mentioned so far...

I have a couple Colts, but the Star is my favorite.
