So really in the past week I have been comparing the SR-22 to the M&P 15-22.

Both seem to be quality guns and I am pretty sure that I will end up with one or the other. I have not shot either and have not handled the SR-22 since I am pretty sure it has not actually hit the streets yet.

SR-22

Advantages
-Uses 10/22 mags which are cheap and availible
-10/22 action

Disads
-No open sights
-No rails
-some controls are not the same as the AR and instead are 10/22 controls

M&P 15-22

Advantages
-Rails
-Factory equipped with open sights
-Larger mags out of the box
-AR controls

Disadvantages
-Proprietary magazine

I didn't cover price because we don't know what the real street price of the SR-22 will look like but chances are they will be close.

If you can think of more comparison please do. For right now my choice is going to be the M&P 15-22 but I think that really comes down to it having open sights.

One's silly. The other one is also silly. So it's hard to compare.:)

I'm not really seeing a great reason to buy a .22LR AR with non-standard receivers, when I can get a regular .22 upper and fit it to a regular lower. I suppose, if state regs keep you from buying a regular AR, or putting a collapsible stock on it, etc., the M&P 15-22 offers a way around that.

And I'm no huge fan of the 10/22 anyway, and I don't see the 10/22 action as an advantage in the least. My .22LR upper is an order of magnitude more reliable and easy to clean, than my 10/22 ever was. And I see "no open sights" as a disadvantage, given the nature of these toys. If what I really want is a scoped .22, I can do a lot better for that money!

As expensive toys go, though, I'm sure they're both fun. My standard .22LR AR is...:)
