I have a XD subcompact (not s) 9mm and compared to a friends in .40 the 9 is much less snappy. (feels like 1/2 the recoil of the .40)

351 WINCHESTER nailed it. A G19 (especially a Gen 4) is an awesome pistol choice.

JMHO.

While I agree that a G19 is a good gun and good carry option, she doesn't like the way they feel in her hand, and has no interest in owning one. She has handled the G19, 26, and 43. In addition, she is of small stature and her clothing choice makes concealing a gun that size impractical. That's why we are looking at single stack 9mms, and not double stack duty sized pistols. So just to squash any other errant "get a Glock " comments, let me just say she doesn't want a Glock. That's why I asked about the XDs in 9mm.

The bummer is that when we were looking this weekend, she was pretty well settled on the XDs in 9mm, but then she picked up a Ruger LC9S and liked it a lot. It's less expensive, so that's cool, but I'm concerned that the absence of 5.5 ounces of weight that the XDs has is going to make it snappier than she realizes.

She's making this hard. Unfortunately I can't afford to buy both right now, and there is no rental range with either model here.

Lc9s is a fine shooter. My son has one. We find the grip easier on the hand than the xds grip. He also added a hogue handall slip on grip to make the Ruger grip a bit more palm filling-- it is even thinner than the xds but does not have the big ridges the xds grip has.
