Using data from a recent article in Mother Jones and from the Univ. of Florida Natural History Museum, I compiled this comparison of shark attacks and mass shooting frequency in the USA by year. Please distribute this chart, I think it speaks for itself.

FYI, visit the new New Mexico Gun Forum at nmguns.net!

You've got to be joking ...

Now guns will be blamed for mass shootings, shark attacks, and probably global climate change.

We must close the shark teeth loophole!

There is no reason these sharks even need such ridiculous serrated objects made for shredding tissue.
Plenty of fish that hunt to survive are able to survive by merely gulping in prey. These shark teeth are unnecessary for hunting or surviving.

Not only do that have them, but they have rows of them, with more ready to pop into place. These are high capacity rows of teeth, good for only one thing!
No sensible shark needs that many teeth to eat.

I propose a complete ban.
Then perhaps we can compromise that they can have one set of teeth only, and not large capacity rows.

These are not rates, but total numbers of injuries + deaths per year. The smoothed line is simply a four period moving average.

Do we hunt sharks to extinction? Do we forbid our kids from going to the beach? Do we worry ourselves sick about shark attacks? Do we arm life guards with harpoons? The point is, worry about mass shootings the same amount as your do shark attacks.

The reality is, with all the ways for people to die in this country (shark attacks, cars, drowning, ladders, etc.) the amount of attention given to gun control makes no rational sense.
