Competitive Shooting

Well, some of this should really rattle a few cans.
There ain't no one in SASS that had/has more fun than me. On the range or off the range. Goin' and comin' and everything in between. But when I hear "Red you're in the box", the understanding shooters let me be. I probably won't hear you anyway. Findin' my bubble. No waves, just smooth ripples. Calmin' down, thinkin'of the best thing in the world. I would not dare print it here. :)
Walk to the line, stage your guns, scan the stage and when the RO says "Is the cowboy ready?", I go into the zone at the sound of the buzzer. 'Til the last shot. Yazzaw!! Then the adrenalin kicks in.

I have "been there..done that" on the trap range. Since I am a cowboy at heart, I would like to give SASS a try.
I'm not sure I have the right gear.
Ruger Blackhawks
Marlin 1894c
My granpappy's ol '97

I believe I owe Jeff an apology. I was trying to go for a humorous way of making my point (read it as Sherman T. Potter ... it's funny in my head, anyway! :)) and I meant no insult to him whatsoever.

I stand by my observations, but I do need to be mindful of appearing to ridicule others and giving offense where none was intended.

So, my hat is off, my hand on my heart: I apologize, mea culpa.

BULLLLLL-Pucky. ;)

I worked as an S.O. at the 2008 IDPA Nationals. Dave Olhasso won CDP Division Champion shooting a down-loaded S&W M&P .45. Nothing racy or custom about that gun -- or about the Glocks, M&Ps, etc. used by most of the other SSP and ESP top shooters. Yeah, maybe they put in a few bucks worth of off-the-shelf trigger parts, but that's it. No "hand fitted" anything, nothing to spend thousands of dollars on. Very accessible stuff any shooter could afford and most could install themselves.

Yeah, if you want a super-race-gun tricked out for ESP or CDP, you can spend as much as you like (as long as it fits in the rules and in the box) but that sure didn't help all the 1911 guys when Olhasso smoked 'em with a plastic fantastic M&P.

Just because I can legally shoot my XD9, or any other stock gun, does not mean you can be competitive out of the box.

If you can't, that's YOUR problem to overcome -- not an equipment issue.
