Putting together another AR. I'm going to get an upper from probably either Noveske or JP. I'm looking at a 14.5" or 16". The Noveske I'm looking at is the Afghan 14.5". I like the NSR rail model and probably a pinned battlecomp 1.5 on it. The JP I'm thinking of is a 16" with the supermatch barrel and the JPHG-1M-RC.

When I think of JP I think of their competition guns (this isn't going to be one). I like the JP bolts/carrier setups. I like Noveske products too of course.

The JP is almost $350 less than the Noveske and has a 1/8 twist instead of the 1/7. $350 is a good amount of money but I'm willing to spend it if there's good reason. I do like that the Noveske uses the vltor mur upper receiver also. I do like the battlecomp 1.5 on the Noveske instead of the A2 on the JP but I can always change that (although that's another $100 or so).

Any downsides to either one I might be missing? The JP BCG seems pretty proprietary so I guess if that has an issue it might be a problem.

Out of those 2 choices: If I wanted a all out dedicated 3 gun AR, I would go 100% JP. All other needs would be met by the Noveske. A Noveske could make a fine 3 gun AR, also.

You can take mass out of any BCG. No big secret with JP BCGs. The JP buffer system is nice for fast double taps on paper targets, but not really needed.

Get the Noveske.

It would be hard to beat the JP in areas that I consider important, and it would have to be something pretty special indeed to cause me to spend more than a JP.

So I'd go with the JP, they're accurate and seem to run forever.

I should add that I would not be getting their low mass carrier I would be getting the full mass. My #1 concern is reliability. My #2 concern is accuracy. I just think the overall design of JP's BCG is nice and I'm sure they're very high quality.

I'm astonished that 30 people who've never heard of Noveske or JP haven't chimed in to recommend a PSA upper instead...

I'm really tempted to be first just because, but I'll just say not to forget LaRue when shopping at this level.

I'm a big Larue fan and I trust that it would be very accurate and reliable....but I'm just not a huge fan of the handguard they have on the stealth uppers. I like it ok but not as much as what JP and Noveske are using. I'm still considering it though because I like Larue products. I've also looked at the Rainier match uppers too which look pretty nice.

Do those expensive uppers have a manufacturer marking on the upper and barrel? I'm pretty sure Colt doesn't mark the upper; maybe the barrel. If you want bragging rights at the range, it's hard if only the lower is marked and you have to go thru the lowdown on what you bought.

Or have a T-shirt made up with a silk-screen image of the sales invoice??? Stick out your chest and say, "Here;Look".:)

Sorry I decided to buy something more expensive than what you want to pay for Ken. Maybe you can get your own shirt that says "I'm the thriftiest shopper around and you overpay for everything" to compete with my shirt that has my invoice on it. That way you can brag to people at the range about how much money you saved instead of just annoying people on the internet with it.

Hey....HJ857 must have had a crystal ball.

You didn't answer my question; do they mark or label the upper? People want to know. I didn't suggest a cheaper one; only one I mentioned is Colt. That's kind of the standard when it comes to ARs. I have TWO Colts, but I don't go waving them around trying to impress...

Go troll someone else's thread and don't post on mine please.
