I have looked through the Texas CCW law and State Department of Public Safety website. It looks like any pistol, including an AK pistol, AR pistol, AR-10 pistol, etc would be legal in TX for concealed carry. Is this for real?

Here's a quote from the DPS website:

Q: What type of handgun will I be able to carry?
A: You may carry any type of legal, concealed handgun you are qualified
to use. If you wish to carry a semi-automatic weapon, you must
complete your firing range test with a semi-automatic. If you do not
wish to carry a semi-automatic, you may test with a revolver.

I'm not sure I could fit one in my pocket:neener:

Legal only if you can conceal it and if you qualified with a semi-auto. If you want that much firepower you can always carry a rifle or shotgun and not worry about concealment.

Something that I have been wondering is if someone has a CCW if they are allowed to carry a rifle or is it just limited to a handgun. Here in Kansas we have just been "granted" our 2nd Amendment inalienable right and this is something I have been wondering about.

Unless you are about 7'8" and 450 pounds, I don't think you could realistically conceal a rifle-based pistol on your person without looking like a refugee from the Matrix, and that would be sort of a giveaway. And, anybody with an ordinary draw-and-shoot pistol would clean your clock as far as time to first shot goes.

It's a neat idea, but I don't think it's particularly practical from a size or ergonomics standpoint.

Wow, in many ways, Connecticut is easier than Texas. My permit says pistols and revolvers. You don't have to qualify with a particular firearm.. I wish States would back off this nonsense.

If you qualify with a semi-auto, then you can carry both. I believe they make a distinction because operating a semi-auto requires a little bit more "saavy" in their opinion to keep it running right. They want you to be competent in the firearm you carry and the gap is important enough that it made it into the law.

You might not be able to carry a rifle-based pistol on your person, but you might be able to have it close by should you think you might need it. I've considered picking up a Bushmaster pistol just because I still can, if for no other reason.
