I am almost of age to get my CHL and I have narrowed down to 2 possible CCW weapons to the Para Hawg 9 and the Taurus 617. In yalls opinion what is the best choice for conceal carry?

Wheelgun vs Single action auto. Conceal-ability?

.357 in a snub vs 9mm in a small 1911 style automatic.

Stainless finish of the para vs the chrome in the taurus

Price is a huge factor, I could do allot of practicing with the Taurus before I add up to the price of the para.

I already have a Para Gun Rights government size 1911 that I shoot at the range and leave on my nightstand. I absolutely love it, only complaint is the tough target acquisition with the standard sights. ;)

I am very torn on these 2 and I will probably get both eventually.

Every person I know who has bought a para recently has had problems with it. In addition to that, 1911 problems usually grow with shrinkage of the package. I love the IDEA of the HAWG 9, but I'm not convinced they have the bugs worked out yet.

I doubt you will ever make the revolver malfunction.

Well, you've got some spotty QC issues that crop up at Taurus... but then, you pay a lot more for the Para, which ALSO has some spotty QC issues, plus the inherent issues with a shrunken 1911 model... so I dunno.

For a revolver I would go with a Smith 642, for a semi, I would go with a compact XD if you like the grip angle of the 1911s.

I like my 617 and carry it IWB. A 642 is in my pocket as backup. You may want to go with a 605 for IWB and a Lite weight Mdl. 85 for the pocket.

I owned the Taurus 617 as my first handgun. It was a pretty good gun but I ended up selling it for a glock 27 because the cylinder on the Taurus was way too wide for IWB carry. Since then I have only owned .38 special, 5 shot revolvers because they are more comfortable to carry.
