I've been carrying my Walther PPK and/or Beretta Cheetah depending on clothing... suffice it to say, after some more in-depth research, I'd like to get away from carrying .380 and step up to carrying a full 9mm Luger.

Not necessarily looking for a single stack 9, but it would be nice with the below features!

That being said, I still want some of the same features these guns have.

I am looking for a reliable, compact 9mm that:
* Has a narrow profile (something I can conceal in the summer)
* Has a manual safety and/or decocking lever/button

So far I've come across pretty much the Sig M11 or FNS-9 Compact. Didn't see many other single stacks that haven't gone over to trigger safeties.

For the time being, it will be a nightstand and carry gun. I'm uncomfortable with just a trigger safety in my nightstand.

Well, since the FNS compact was brought up I must recommend the P30 SK.

Different variations available.

Otherwise the Glock 43/Shield/PM or CM9..gotta get em in your hand and see what you like.

Smith and wesson shield, smith and wesson 9c, ruger lc9, Ruger sr9c, SA xds (grip saftey)
Sig938
All the above meet your requirements.

CNobbe, thanks for the P30SK idea... while I'm at it, I should see how well I can conceal a Walther P99C since I'm intimately familiar with it's younger brother the PPQ.

But the G43/PM9/CM9 are out... need more than a trigger safety since it'll be a nightstand gun as well. Don't want to find the trigger before anything else in the dark.

thefamcnaj - totally forgot about the Sig 938... but that thing looks small, even for my girly hands! I'll see if I can get my hands on one.

And the SA... grip safety might be worth considering. I'll have to ponder that one.

My favorite single stack 9mm for concealed carry is an old S&W Model 3913. Very slim profile, good shooter.

I second the suggestion to look at the HK P30S if small is more important than being single stack. Beyond that if it has to have a safety lever then the Shield or LC9s are the only ones I can think of off the top of my dead (that are genuine single stack). Obviously there's a 1911 in 9mm but that's still going to be a pretty good sized gun.

Colt Defender, Colt New Agent, SA XD-S, SA EMP, SIG P938, and a S&W Shield would all fit your needs very well.

I carried a Taurus PT-111 for a while as an off-duty gun. It was one of the original ones, purchased in 1997 or so, but I think the current version also has a manual safety.

My carry rotation now includes three pistols, none of which have a manual safety. Current favorite of them is a Kahr CM-9. My "nightstand" gun is a pump 12-gauge. The wife is more comfortable with it than with a pistol.

If you are truly worried about finding the trigger before you're ready in this scenario, keep your nightstand gun loaded, but not chambered.

Lots of good suggestions here. I currently own a PPS, P30sk, and P239. The HK is not slim. Think Glock 26 thick, but is fantastic. The P239 is a solid, accurate shooter. On the heavy side for only 8 rnds, but phenomenal gun. If you can be ok with the PPS, it is exceptionally light and thin. Just melts away IWB and shoots right up there with my full size guns. I've also owned a SW CS9 and can highly recommend that or the 3913.

I'm not a fan of the Shields, but that's my opinion. Some people like the Kahrs too, but I hadn't touched one.

The S&W 3913 and similar, are fine pistols. I carried a 3913 for many years under the uniform shirt.

The above list features some guns that are DAO, others that have manual safeties - like the Kimber Solo and Sig P938.

I personally find the slide stop (slide release) lever to just get in the way of a good grip. For others the slide stop irritates the thumb on the shooting hand. The Beretta Nano has last shot hold open without the slide stop lever protruding out of the side of the frame.

There is a model of the Kahr PM9 that has a manual safety.

Pick up (or borrow) the July 2015 copy of Guns & Ammo. They do an extended evaluation for nine different single-stack 9mm gun (at least 600 rounds through each gun), all of which are fired by 5 or six different shooters, some of whome are staff writers and some active LEOs. It's a good article, with details about accuracy, reliability, etc. They took several of the guns beyond 600 to 1000 in their evaluation of which was most reliable. And one shooter was getting very small groups at the end of the evaluation with several of the guns. It's the BEST gun mag evaluation I've seen in a long, long time.

The guns tested: Beretta Nano, Kahr CM9, Kel-Tec PF9, Rulger LCPs, SIG P290RS, S&W M&P9 Shield, Springfield XDs 33, Taurus 709 Slimp, Walter PPS, and Glock 43. One of the best evaluation routines I've seen.

You can still get a Sig 225/P6.

Also an HK P7 has a (sorta) decocker.

If I was going to go back to a single stack 9, the P6, P7, 9mm Commander 1911 or 3913 would be my choices.

I think, while nice for certain niche CCW times, the really small 9's give up too much in ease of shooting for ease of carrying.

The PPS has gotten very good reviews on the Walther forum, a number of the PPK owners tried it and liked it. And they do not softball the reviews if unhappy with a gun. Check the PPS subforum. I might get one myself.
