Concealed carry

I've made a few people, but as far as I know I haven't been made. I didn't say anything to the people I noticed were carrying, so maybe if I have been made I wasn't told.

The only time I'm aware I was made was at my local pizza hut, my wife son and I frequent it at least once a week if not more so the staff is more than acquainted with us, were all actually on a first name basis, well I had bought a new iwb holster for my carry piece at that point in time (bersa thunder 380) and it didn't exaclt work out with my shirt that day, it rode up a little bit, exposing the handle, well the next time we went to ph again one of our fav waitresses came up to me laughingly tells me that a couple called up there just after they left to tell them I'm armed and they need to call 911, she laughes at them on the phone and told them "good were safe from the crazies in this town"

To the best of my knowledge before they called she had no idea I carried, however I find that if you're a respectful well mannered young man, that most even when they find out you carry they're just happy to have a good guy on their side

The only time I've ever been "made" that I know of, I was open carrying. Even then almost nobody ever says anything. The ones who do say something along the lines of "Nice gun." "Is that a Colt?"

The worst thing anyone ever said was "Excuse me. Did you know your pistol is cocked?" I explained about 1911's, to which he replied, "Really? Learn something new everyday." and went back to pumping his gas.

Concealed? Couldn't tell you.

I've always just pocket carried a Ruger LCP. Kinda hard to spot a gun that way - paticularly as if the occasion arose where I didn't think my pants would accomodate it, I'd just leave the gun home anyways. As such, to my knowledge, I've never been "made".

South Carolina CCW law really puts a damper on carrying ability anyways. You're not allowed to carry into any establishment which 'serves alchoholic beverages for consumption on the premises' - whether you yourself are drinking or not. As a result, just about ANY nice restaurant is an automatic no-carry zone until/unless the law is changed.

I'm hoping to get a good small 9mm for carrying on the hip under a jacket and/or shirt though. I have complete faith in the .380 round but that little LCP is not easy to shoot. Don't think I can conceal my SIG P6 well enough, but maybe a Kahr CW9 (or even a TP9) or a Ruger SR9C.

CCW Carry

Like the man said falling from a 10 story building, so far so good. Switching back and forth between a full size 1911 or HK USP. A good holster helps I think.

I was made by my neice @ one Thanksgiving dinner:what:.......Chalk this one up to careless leg crossing while wearing an ankle holster,,,,,,

My nephew pointed at the LCP (in a wallet-holster) in my front-pocket one time and asked "what's that?". "My journal... (blank stare) ..."a diary"... was my response. That abruptly ended the inquisition.

It's going to depend on the local laws.

I occasionally open carry and nothing has ever been said to me. Now in some other states, that's a crime.

I think most people when they get their CCW permit are extremely concerned and feel that the gun will be noticable to everybody MOST people don't even notice if the gun is visible. LEO may be different, but the vast majority of the public won't notice even if it's in plain sight. Keep it reasonably covered and 99.9% of the population will never notice, much less say anything about it.

Sorry if I'm repeating but I just skimmed this thread.

Getting "made" isn't as big a deal in some states as others. In Pennsylvania our license is called a "License to Carry Firearms", not a Concealed Carry Permit. We are not required to conceal the firearm just because we have a permit and are not required to have a permit to open carry. I know some states require you to carry completely concealed when you have a permit but not in all states. Here in PA getting "made" means nothing.

Got busted last week. Our company policy is that carry is not allowed in the office so I got a small NAA 22mag revolver that I carried in my front pocket and no one ever knew. I have carried it for some time. I did think that they would see my XD if I tried to carry it.

Well we had surprise drug test (they are random in a construction company) and this guy made me empty my pockets. I just pulled the pistol out, showed him and right back in. No problem from him but this loudmouth laborer had to make a comment and someone from corporate heard it and later my boss told me I had to leave it at home or in my pickup. So now it sets in my pickup all day. If I can't bring it into the office, I may just trade it in for something bigger to carry in my pickup.

I know that a 22mag is not a great carry gun, but my thought was that a - 22 in the pocket was better than a 45 that is 250' from you.

REALLY??? They made you empty your pockets for a random drug test? WHY??

Those drug tests are dehumanizing enough without the warrant-less search!

Wow, sorry you got busted and I would spread the word that laborer has a big mouth and is not to be trusted. Nothing worse than having someone on the job with you who can't be trusted. (tell the shop steward too)

When you go to work for a lot of corporations you have to basically sign away your civil rights or you don't get the job.

I guess he had to make sure that I didn't have a bag of clean pee in my pocket. The last random test that we had, they didn't make us do that but this guy did. From what I hear, they wouldn't have said anything to me but since the other guy would not shut his mouth, then they decided that to make me tow the line so if anyone else brought it up that they could tell them what happened to me. Sucks, but I should have removed it before I went to the test. Trouble is that after you carry for a long time, it is just there and you don't think about it.

I got made at a wedding. A friend of the groom introduced himself and in a low voice said, "I'd move the holster a little farther back on the belt if I were you". Turned out he's an LEO and knew what to look for. He and I hung out most of the night.

+1 for "most people don't notice"

I was in VA about 2 years ago when you had to go from concealed to open carry if you went into a restaurant that served alcohol. So I'm with a group of 10 people, in daylight. I am carrying a 3" 1911 in a VM-II left side with a on the belt magazine pouch on the right. 5 yds from the door I take off my jacket, go into the well lit restaurant, over to a large table and move around it to sit facing the door:) Between dinner and desert I get up and go back and forth to the men's room. Then after dinner, out through a different door to the board walk that required us to cross the entire dining room.

Not only did no one in the premises visibly notice at the time but later when I asked 7 of the people in our party about it they confirmed that they had not noticed I was armed. This was a mixed group male and female ages from mid teens to mid 50s.

I've noticed a number of WB carries on other people over the years. It's the usual issue of wind blowing the shirt back and exposing the butt of the pistol. That's one reason I'm no fan of waistband carry.

I've openly carried quite a bit, and one really odd thing is when I go into a store with what's quite obviously a gigantic rifle (Mosin-Nagants, usually) in a canvas rifle sheath nobody bats an eye. But when I put my walking stick with a "Y" attachment on top inside my backpack scabbard I seem to get all kinds of attention. People aggressively asking me what I'm carrying, etc. To the untrained eye, the "Y" end of the walking stick somehow looks more like a rifle than an actual rifle!

There's some interesting psychology here, I think. The sack over the rifle makes it a sack to most eyes. The lines are blurred by the canvas. But so much as an angle exposed even if it isn't a firearm, will look like a firearm to people. If you can eliminate the sharp edges of the exposed butt you will probably be fine.

I never get "made" with the exception of one circumstance. I wear a suit to work 5 days a week and carry my M&P 40 Compact in a deep conceal soft shoulder holster. It hides the gun perfectly under my dress shirts. The only problem with this is that when someone comes up to give me a hug (what can I say...the ladies think I'm huggable haha) they will often get a feel of the gun resting below my left underarm. I've never had anything come out of it and try to avoid those situations but I've had some interesting reactions. I've had people asking if I had a medical device or brace under there but most just give me confused looks. When I explain that I'm a licensed carrier and that the object is a gun, there's normally nothing said after that. However, I'm a Texan and we're about as gun friendly as it gets.

CCW? Means just that.

I don't intend to offend anyone with what I say. I don't condemn anybody for how they carry.
I have carried, open and concealed, for 40 years. When I was concealed I NEVER had anyone notice because I intended to be concealed. That has meant some adjustment in weapon, holster or location at times but what I did always worked.
A couple years ago up here a young man decided to CC under a suit coat. He went into a store and while browsing decided he was warm and took off his coat. He lost his temper when questioned by PD after a complaint because he, "was carrying concealed". He still doesn't understand that he wasn't.

As far as I know I have never been made. N.C. is an open carry state but I however choose not to because of all the people that would spaz-out if they saw it.

mgmorden You might want to check out the new CM9 that Kahr is suppose to have out in Feb. It's rumored to be less expensive and less refined than the PM9 but around the same size. I have the PM9 and the CW45. If the CM9 is as good as these are, they will have another winner on their hands.

Don't believe so, no one has ever said anything. Most of the time my wife isn't sure if I am.
