I've carried the same Glock 17 since 1988 and have owned countless other Glocks and have sworn by them since the beginning. However, about a month ago, I removed the mag from my g17 and discovered there was a crack in the plastic running down the back of the mag (non drop free factory mag that came with the pistol in 88). So, I load the spare mag that also came originally with the pistol. On a recent road trip, I'm talking to a friend and remove the mag to do a show and tell of where the other mag was cracked and to my surprise, this mag is also cracked down the back worse than the other. Let me say that I maintain my weapons quite well and the pistol nor mags have ever been abused. In fact, the mag was/is loaded with 15 rds ammo rather than 17. I've seen all metal mags develop stress cracks but only after extensive use. I'm going to send both mags to Glock to see what they will do about it. Hopefully, they will replace them at no charge but the fact that they basically self desinigrated is a concern. Anyone else had this happen?

Well, as 19 year old mags, it might just be time to replace them...it would concern me that these 2 mags failed you on the same day...very very coicidental :scrutiny:

I have a supply of new drop free factory mags that I bought back prior to the ban in 94 and because the mag in the photo that remains loaded was also new/unused, but cracked after loading, I wonder if the others will do the same as they are only about 5 years newer.

Send them to Glock. You'll probably get some new ones out of the deal.

Yes, I agree...and with only 10 posts.:scrutiny:

Maybe I missed something in my post about them both failing on the same day? I did not say that. As for making a big deal, to me it is. What happens if this occurs during a time of need? I have other pistols and none of them have had this happen yet. Just simply asking if anyone has had this happen to their mags.

It's been almost 20 years. I don't know what the standard life for mag are, but I'll be happy if my mags last me into middle age. If it was an integral gun part though, that'd be a different story.

I had one of my original non-drops crack a bit at the top, I quit using it then so it never got to the point yours is. In fact I retired all my non-drops and bought a bunch of the latest generation, 16 bucks ea. is cheap insurance against some kind of failure in an old mag.

I also have a first genreation Glock with three of the old NFML mags. I did not have a problem despite extensive use but have heard of older Glock mags splitting before.
Glock will replace them for you free of charge, at that time you should ask for some promotional items and they will most likely make you very happy.
