i recently bought a gun mag with one of those rediculously over dressed AR-15s on the cover and saw that it had a night vision scope mounted to it and in another article there was yet another AR with thermal
this got me curious about owning these type of optics (not realisticly mind you as i cant afford them for the prices ive seen listed)
so that let me to my next question are these optic choices legal to own?
i found that i can own NV optics fine but then i read about CA nonsensical laws and found they cant have NV with IR lights
so what about the other 49 states? can they own NV with IR illuminators?
i did a search for IR and found alot of companies denote "for military and law enforcment use only" on there stand alone ir lasers and lights but ive found alot of scopes with built in IR that say nothing about legality
and that brings me to my next question what about thermal?
is it legal to own? are there any restrictions on where you can and cant own it?
again this really is just for knowledge sake as most the thermal imaging equipment ive found is well above the price of my car and the NV that i like is about a third of that same price so i wont be plunking my pennies down any time soon (or possably ever for that matter) but the curiousity bug bit and i figure you guys would have the answers
one last thing i have no interest in useing these for hunting i know most states wont allow it so no worries on that part just a what if scenerio that i found a range that allowed night shoots and had the millions in the bank to buy dream equipment lol
