The grip safety does have some draw backs. With the striker down you have to have the grip safety depressed to cycle the slide. Not usually and issue, especially if you are aware of it. But with the grip safety locking the sear you can if you willing create a striker fired trigger that will rival some 1911 triggers. The factory trigger has way more motion than is strictly required. With a few after market parts you can cut the trigger travel way down and make a very crisp trigger. You need just enough pre-travel to disengage the striker safety and then you can tune out all the over travel. The grip safety is there to keep that sear locked in place if you drop the gun.

Where would be a good place to buy a holster? I was thinking something along the lines of a drop down hip holster or paddle holster.

I've bought holsters from Academy, Amazon, Outbags USA was my last one in leather. If you look for Mod 2 holsters they will fit the Defender series. I'm not into spending a lot for holsters. Stealth Operator is my favorite. They will fit 150 different guns. I got mine at Academy for $29. My XDE, XD 9, and my Glock 19 all fit in that one holster.
