Sounds like everything worked out for the better with your "new" Dakota revolver! I think they were made by Armi Jager in Val Trompia, Italy and are still being imported by EMF nowadays, though I'm not sure who the manufacturer in Italy is. I have an older EMF Hartford Model that was built by Armi San Marco at the time. I did find the Dakota listed in the back of the '73 edition of Gun Digest. It was offered in .22LR, .22 Magnum, .357 Magnum, .44-40, and .45 Colt and retailed for $99.75 way back when.

Numrich Gun Parts (gunpartscorp.com), appears to carry some parts for the Dakota line in case you might need any replacement pats. Let us know how it shoots!

Have two of these in 45 colt and both were bought used. They are accurate and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if one crops up local. Very well made revolvers.

Thanks, Rock.

Bannockburn, Sack Peterson has composed a good piece about these guns. From other reading, I see that Lee Martin and Sack have pondered the topic for a few years now.
