Coming up September 13th and 14th all over America.

A copy of a post (I could only hope to be so well spoken) on the Appleseed forum by Funfaler....

We have 8 shoots scheduled for September 13-14, to commemorate the Constitution.....Our Constitution!

While this is no "April 19th", and who really cares about a piece of paper, please consider a few things.

This "piece of paper" is what resulted from the blood spilled on Lexington Green, this "paper" was bought with the blood of Isaac Davis on the North Bridge.

The frozen limbs at Valley Forge, the lost souls at Bunker Hill, the many men and women that gave all, so that we may have "a piece of paper".....

How about the millions that have, since 1775, laid down their lives, for the "piece of paper"? Does this sound familiar to anyone here: "I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;...?

The millions that have cast aside their lives on this world sure would like to think that they have done so for more than a piece of paper...

How about those that have given their oath, that still stand today? Do we let them believe that their oath is just for a piece of paper? Do we so cheapen their commitment, and that of the millions before them, to consider this just a "piece of paper"?

One of my favorite quotes from George Washington, upon hearing of Lexington/Concord, essentially lays out the fact that They had but two choices, fight or submit. Ben Franklin, when leaving the Constitutional Convention, told us that they gave us a Republic, if we can keep it. John Adams, in reflecting the cost of his generation, for this 'piece of paper', told us that if we do not make good use of our Freedoms, that he would be sorry in Heaven that he took half the pains to secure it for us.
Just a "piece of paper" has gotten these great men to take the time to address US. Just a "piece of paper" has motivated millions to make the ultimate sacrifice to preserve it for you and I. There are Billions of people on this earth, past and present, that would dearly love to live with just the "piece of paper" as we have, for over 200 years.....

Is it not an indication of just how NEEDED these events, these Constitution Day Appleseed Events are, when there are less than 27 folks signed up to Celebrate and Commemorate, a "piece of paper" that has been the Cause that men have died for? Not just a few, but Millions!

Now I understand that we can not hog tie folks and force them to come, but you can bet on one thing, there is plenty of room for us to do more!

-Are all these shoots posted on every gun/patriot/freedom/preparedness forum on the internet?
-Have you printed and copied the flyer(s) for the shot nearest you, and placed them around town?
-Have you contacted any news papers in your local area to tell them that this event is taking place?
-How about contacting radio stations in your area?
-How about the Boy Scouts, 4-H, community groups in your area?
-Do you think for a moment that the VFW, American Legion, and other vet groups in your area might be interested?

Folks, John Adams and Ben Franklin were talking directly to US when they made their comments above. They are watching, I have no doubt. They stand in the ranks, with people like Isaac Davis, John Parker, Daniel Morgan, your Grandfather, your father, your brother/sister today, that saw this "piece of paper" for what it is.

This "Piece of Paper", is what fixes the horror that George Washington spoke of, in the quote above....That they had but two choices...fight or submit....This "Piece of Paper", their gift to us gives us our precious third choice. That third choice is that we are in control of this nation. It belongs to us, it is right there, on that "Piece of Paper", bought and paid for in the blood of heroes. They gave, for us to have this "Piece of Paper" folks.....some gave very much.

While you and I can look at the Cause that they took up, and we can marvel at what they did, their Cause is our Cause, it was Just and Righteous then, it still is. Like we look at them, in wonder of the sacrifice they have made for us (from then to now), They are looking at us, wondering if we will honor their sacrifice!

We can not force those empty souls we see around us, in this Republic, to do anything, and as such, we do not have to answer for their actions.....We only have to answer for our own actions.....or inaction....We will be judged by our Hearts and Minds, by the efforts we made....by our efforts to "...make good use of it.", as John Adams has asked us to do.

If we can not, now, while it is easy and comfortable, do those things that "just and righteous" people do, to "Keep it if we can", and "take care of the children".....how will we measure up to those, that when the future was very dark, the prospects of success nil, and the dangers great, stood up and gave so much.....

Rhetoric? Well, you can think so. However, my view, there are many, many folks that have died for this "Piece of Paper", my thoughts are that we owe at least a "feigned attempt" to honor those that thought enough of this "Piece of Paper" to lay down their lives, so that you and I could enjoy the benefits of this "Piece of Paper". Our obligation, our efforts here at Appleseed is to bring honor to those that deserve it, and to help others, in our nation, to understand that these people deserve our honor too.
