The newest addition. Was trying to decide between an AR for the collection or a higher end 1911. After debating and getting input here decided on an AR since it's something I didn't have yet. After debating between a Colt LE6920 and a Daniel Defense, I decided to go with the DD since it seemed to have a couple upgrades that I would probably make anyway.
I was originally going to go with the V2 with the shorter rail (7" instead of 12" I believe) but then looked at DD rail prices, HOLY COW!!! Never thought that a rail could run significantly north of $300! So decided to go with the longer rail version (V1) with the thought that if I really don't like it, I can always sell/trade for the shorter one.
Question about the vertical grip though. It seems awfully awkward to me to steady the rifle using a vertical grip rather than the traditional normal grip just on the handguard itself. Is this something that is just preference, or is there an actual reason for it?
Also (and I know it's debated to death), but is there anything wrong with using steel cased ammo for range fodder? I'm thinking not, but never having owned an AR, I'm not an authority on it.
