I was curious as to what would be required to convet a DAO GP 100 to be able to fire single action as well. Would it just be replacing the hammer, or would the sear need to be replaced as well?
Yup you just need a hammer. It might have been bobed by someone,or it might have a DAO notch on the hammer with a bobed spur. The new trigger will take care of it for you.
I recently traded for a DAO 4" SS GP-100, too. Mine has a Century Arms import stamp on the left side of the frame under the cylinder. I was told it is an ex-PD gun from somewhere in Canada.
I'm thinking about converting mine, too, but I'd still bob the new hammer. That's what I had done to my first 3" 65, too.
Good luck getting a new hammer. Ruger won't sell them--they're a factory fit only item.
Don't know if they'll convert it for you--they have a policy of only returning guns to the customer if they are returned to factory spec. Since you're asking them to change the gun from the way it came from the factory they may demur.
As far as conversions, Ruger might do it. I was told, when I sent my SP101 for warenty work that it was an option(fro a cost) to convert to dao, so the other way seem feasable. I also wanted to have them install a longer barrel, but they were out of stock.
John is right aboiut them not sellingp parts. And you wont find any anywhere else probably, but look on gunbroker. Sometimes people sell parts kits.
