Convince me why I need a Battle Rifle

1. You don't need one. Fun hobby, though.
2. As far ast the post-apocalyptic 700 yard shot requirement, counseling will fix that. 95% of all infantry combat occurs at 200 meters or less, according to the USAIS.
3. Garands can be fired in the JC Garand matches and Service Rifle matches, are pretty inexpensive, have an interesting history, and are easy to work on at home.

"After seeing the photo of the propane tank, I'm won't be surprised when someone from PETOPT contacts you."

Huh????

If you "needed" a MBR today, you wouldn't be online asking to be convinced... ;)

Seriously though, in light of constantly changing social conditions, a MBR might someday, theoretically, be a very useful tool....

A .308 will stop a motorcycle, car, or truck, a lot easier than 7.62x39. It will also turn some 7.62x39 "cover" into simple concealment. Consider a group of thugs repeatedly driving through your neighborhood shooting indiscrimininately. Next time they're a block away, remove their mode of transportation with a .308 to the engine block, thereby increasing their vulnerability. If they're not smart enough to get their tails out of the area, they may hide behind a car or a brick wall.... .308 will do MUCH better at penetrating obstacles than 7.62x39.

And one never does know when that abused class of objects known as propane tanks might rise up in rebellion (great pictures).... ;)

Ok. Just the fact you're asking indicates you're not having enough fun. Go with a CMP Garand. M1A's are too expensive and aren't real battle rifles. Most FAL's around are copies and as such aren't either. The CMP Garand is real and you will know it's safe to shoot. Don't even think about anything from Century Arms. Their QC is unreliable.

Convince me why I need a Battle Rifle

Convince us you don't need one. :D

The absolute best reason I can come up with for owning one is because you're an American and you can.

The second best reason is because it really pisses the libs off when one gets sold to a mere serf such as yourself and the rest of us.

D*mn! I knew it was going to be like this! I could kick myself in the arse for selling my Garand way back in '93 or '94. I killed my first deer with one in Northern Cali.

I loved the thing, but it wasn't practical for accurate kills on game out to 300 or 400 yards and I didn't have the money to keep the Garand and pay out for a new hunting rig.

I would love to have another, but have to convince the wife that's it's a justifiable expense (in her mind). I doubt that will happen.

However, I have just signed with Coldwell Banker Real Estate here in Memphis and am waiting for my license to arrive from the Tennessee Real Estate Commission and finally give up my aviation "career/fiasco". Hopefully, if things go right I may be able to finance my own battle rifle armory.

Thanks for all the "help?" You people are a "bad" influence :D

Yes, you NEED to own a battle rifle. Because you are an AMERICAN, dammit, and being American has NEVER been about getting by on just what you need. If you can afford it, and you want it, you may consider it your civic duty to arm yourself to the hilt while you can.

Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto - “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.â€

Why does a dog lick his balls? Because he CAN.

We make the faster cars, the most powerful computers, we put men on the moon, we started the Internet, the list goes on and on and on... and we have probably more privately-owned weapons than any other nation on earth.

But the fact that it pisses off Schumer, Feinstein, Kennedy, Clinton, etc. works for me.

Besides, if you own a MBR, you can use it to get your friends hooked on shooting one, and then they'll have to own one, too.

Having a battle rifle, 1,000 rounds of ammo and being able to effectively use it at long distances is what makes a man a citizen instead of a subject.

Because there are members of our government, who controls our Armed Forces, that would just assume you NOT have it.

Because there are forign countries that would just assume you NOT have it.

That's enough reason for me!

Will I *NEED* my scoped .338 Lapua Magnum with an effective range of 1800+meters? Probally not (but is it possible!)

Am I damn glad that nobody with an AK or pistol or even .308 is going to be a threat if I can spot them far enough away? HELL YES!

Am I gald that I have the ability to take out the driver of a JBT-car, through the windshield, before he and his cronies are even within a hopeful engaugement distance? YOU BET!

wella/yeahme/gunkid/hardin.... come out - come out wherever you are....

So, so you really want to handicap yourself with a 308? Some IPSC rifle and 3 gun events will show you that that is exactly what you do when you forego the 223,with its .22 lr conversion for snapshooting practice, and so on. Not many guys have access to any ranges that offer 600+ yd shooting, and a lot fewer shooters are really any good at such ranges, regardless of the gun and load chosen.

I've never seen an IPSC target or a range target hide behind furniture or other light cover....

.223 "cover" is equivalent to .308 "concealment". Hiding behind a brick wall is a lot less comforting when the incoming rounds are from a .308...

You are NOT going to shoot thru an engine block with eithe 308 or 3006 AP ammo, either. That's a big load of horse pucky.

I agree. But a .308 will crack an engine block... quickly limiting the transportation available to armed thugs and felons, like someone I know about....

Unless I'm mistaken, you want one pretty bad. Well enough that you've contemplated it enough to where you decided to ask this forum knowing we'll convince you or at least try. When I get this way about something I get a good case of the f-it's and just go out and buy it. I figure if its something I'm going to think about non-stop it's more of a need than a want for the sake of my sanity. :D

BTW- You just aren't cool if you don't have one, and everyone needs to be cool. :p
