I saw a Mossberg Patriot Predator with Brown Cerakoted barrel and Timber Strata camo stock. It looks really cool, and while looks are important, I’m more concerned about how it performs, especially with respect to accuracy. Does anyone have any experience with this model?

Mossberg has had their ups and downs. Kind of reminds me of the same thing Savage went through until they got some senior management that were also gun people. I’m glad to see Mossberg back in the game with a focus on quality and customer service. Call Mossberg’s Customer Service Department and you get someone on the other end of the line that knows what they’re doing. Other companies, like Kimber for example, are going the other direction. Call Kimber’s Customer Service Department and you’ll end up speaking with someone that’s never even held a gun, let alone fired one!

Never had to call Kimber but my 8400 270 WSM rifle is fantastic.

I have played with several Patriots, but not this specific model. I have a target shot with a plain jane synthetic 308 that measured under 1/2". I sold a couple of the MVPs that would do the same after a little load tweeking..

My LGS just listed a .270 Mossberg with what looks like walnut stock. It didnt have the fluted bolt and model name wasnt listed but I'm pretty sure it's a patriot, although all the wood stock Patriots have a nice dark walnut and the one at the shop is very light. I was thinking about picking it up for $225....

It may be the 4x4 which is a predecessor of the Patriot. I have one in 30-06 and it is a great shooter. It has a lighter walnut stock with three holes on each side of the stock under the barrel. The early versions had a non-fluted bolt.

    Interesting. Stock doesn't look like a 4x4.

I had one in 270. I really liked it. I could get half inch to three quarter inch groups with my reloads. Well built rifle. A little slop in the bolt when all the way open but nothing I minded

My only wish for the Patriot is that they should change the mag insert and bedding situation of these rifles. The rear of the receiver sits on the plastic mag insert which effectively becomes a cheap plastic V block. This then spreads apart and breaks. I think the rear of the receiver should be bed on something solid. The front bedding situation is better but my action screw was bottoming out on the barrel shank. I think the mag insert thing should be made of aluminum or done away with. And the Mossberg DBMs are the cheapest feeling ever, though they do work. They feel like they would belong on a RC truck you bought for 19.99 at Toys R Us. Sorry for the brutal review but we learn more from negative feedback than positive.
On the upside, the barreled action is fantastic.

Assuming, of course, someone at Kimber answer's the phone.
When I called them (a few years back) nobody picked up the phone. A buddy that was not working at the time tried calling for me and when someone answered the phone they put him on hold so long he fell into a coma.

If a person buys a Kimber and has no issues, he probably got a good one and may never need customer service. If he ever needs to call Kimber's customer service, I feel for him.

Unfortunate but true. If Kimber doesn’t wake up this will lead to their demise.
