Cor-Bon DPX 32 ACP

Does anyone have any experience with this round? On paper, it looks to be the most potent JHP out there for 32, but I'm looking for some 'real world' opinions. Feeding issues? Rimlock? Any backyard chrono or wetpack tests? I carry, and am quite happy with, Sellier and Bellot FMJ, but a viable hollow point option in 32 would be great. Thanks.

PS: I edc a PPK, if anyone else carries a Walther with the CorBon I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

I think the primary question needs to be will it make adequate penatration in calibrated gel.

For me I understand that mouseguns are a compromise and as such you give up some compared to FBI protocols but IMO if a load wont make 10" its a dangerous liability.

Looks like cor bon is saying 9" of penatration in 4layer denimn covered gel. Your s&b fmj will do roughly 14"

I agree. This is the catch 22 with the .32, which is why I carry FMJ. I know the CorBons are a hot load, so I would be interested to see some tests.

I believe the GoldenLoki tests (which are great) were with the 'old' CorBon round, but I'm not positive.

Disclaimer: Let me say up front that I am a fan of the CorBon DPX and use it in several pistols and revolvers. That said:

Every pic I have ever seen of fired CorBon DPX ammo, regardless of caliber or medium shot into or through, shows uniform and full expansion.

That large expansion probably comes at the expense of some penetration, and for a marginally-powered cartridge, may or may not be an advantage.

The bullet does exactly what it is designed to do. The question is...is that what you want, and are you willing to spend the money to fire enough rounds through your pistol to ensure that it will function correctly every time?

Many people go FMJ on a .32, and even on a .380, because penetration is secondary only to shot placement. Another potential factor on a .32 is rimlock. IIRC, this is an issue with JHPs, but not with FMJ. Or maybe I got it backwards...it's been at least 6 years since I have owned a .32.

We can all give you our opinions but at the end of the day you should take what factual data you can gather and make your own decision.

You could be right. I've never used it. I do like S&B FMJ in my little .32 ACP guns the best, with Fiocchi FMJ after that.

DPX in all my 380 and 45's Only reason not in my 32. Is I haven't ordered any yet. I think people get to hung up on the 12" thing. BG don't want shot period. A sight of gun majority will hi-tail it . Look at the videos of robbery where the person defended himself. Once victim gun came in to play . They were on the run . Remember its not about killing the BG. Its about defending one's self . BG's don't want shot . Bullet wound likely means hospital and police. 2 things they don't want. Just my 02 I would think 9" be fine. Plus you can shoot more than 1 time.

Then there's the bad guy who's drunk, drugged, enraged or psychotic and who doesn't react like "rational" person does, and the bullet must reach and damage vitals to force him to stop.

A while back, there was a link to a report posted somewhere on THR of a guy who was shot 17 times by duty handguns, and 223 rifle rounds, and still had to be wrestled down by cops to get handcuffed. He later died. (The AR15's came in to play after the handguns failed to stop him).

He wasn't drunk, or drugged.

Just angry.

Make sure you can get to the vitals.

I saw the video of the guy who was shot 17 times by the police duty guns. He was a big guy, but must have had a horse shoe in his hind end. Somehow all those cops missed his torso. He had multiple holes in his Arms and legs though.
