I recently purchased an NAA Guardian .32 ACP and I purchased two additional mags. I loaded them both and experienced what I now know to be rimlock with both of them. I had to disassemble the magazine to empty it. Thanks to THR, I have learned that it is due to the round shifting in the magazine which is a consequence of the shorter Hollow Point rounds. I am wondering if the Full Metal Jacket will completely prevent this? Since it is an .32 ACP, I would be more likely to carry FMJ any way.

The Fiocchi FMJ is notably longer than the Speer Gold Dot HP (.973" oal vs. .900" oal). Is the additional .073" enough to completely eradicate rimlock?

I have the same gun but have not had that problems with the FMJ's nor with the HP's I have used. The HP's are 'long nose' enough to mimic the FMJ's. Good luck.

Try Fiocchi or S&B ammo, even HP. The cases are formed differently and they are less prone to rimlock. I've yet to experience rimlock with either of these brands and that in a pistol that is very susceptable to rimlock (CZ83)

I have a Kel Tec and have experienced rimlock, it is for real. Ball ammo will not cause rimlock. What I do is carry 1 HP in the pipe and 1 on top of the mag, all remaining are ball. Het the hottest ball you can and you will be alright.

yup

fmj will eliminate rimlock issues. some even interleave with fmj and hp, which will also eliminate any rim lock issues...

Like Gilfo, I went a good ways with a hollowpoint in the chamber of my Keltec and ball in the magazine. Now I don't bother, I figure a .32 needs penetration more than expansion anyhow, and the Fiocchi hardball is smooth feeding and (claimed) higher velocity than US.

I have had an NAA .32 Guardian for about 4 years - not had that happen. Mine has functioned flawlessly with both hydra shocks and Fiocchi FMJ.

Load chamber and top round in mag with HP rest of mag ball No rimlock this way. That sorry blunt nose winchester will rim lock also Its same length as HP I locked up my KT once. I went with the above loading then added the rimlock kit in my KT carry mag. I know carry CorbonHP and after several 100 rounds of it never a rimlock.

Having shot and collected .32 acp pistols for about twenty years now I will say rimlock is not caused by the length of the cartridge but by careless loading of the magazine.
When loading any box magazine with rimmed or semi rimmed cartridges care must be excercised to ensure one does not push down and back with too much force.
Too much force will allow the cartridge being loaded to force the underlying cartridge lower in the magazine allowing the upper cartridge to jump the rim of the underlying cartridge.

I have found it to be best practice to start the cartridge at the front of the feed lips, push straight down just until the cartridge rim clears the feed lips, and then push straight back until the front of the bullet clears the front wall of the magazine.
Don't try to push the cartridge back until it contacts the back wall of the magazine as this it what forces the lower cartridge down and allows the top most rim to jump the lower cartridge rim.

I have had only two cases of rimlock with a variety of .32 acp pistols using all kinds of ammunition and in both instances the rimlock was caused by myself being hasty and in a hurry with loading the magazines.

No offense, Onmilo, but you are wrong. I have tested this theory with 2 P32s. I bored myself to tears loading the mags slowly and carefully. Still got rimlock. User error can cause rimlock also, but the round-length issue is also a contributing factor.
More than one way to rimlock a cat;)

I disagree with you also. I have a number of .32acp pistols and only one has rimlock problems. The design of the magazine and pistol have more effect than loading technique.

I've verified it with my chrono.
there 60gr SJHP is a good 180-200fps faster than golddots,Silvertips or Hydroshocks.I use S&B ball ammo It's 100+ better than WWWB or UMC.

In acknowledgement of those who disagree with my observations I will say that one of the two rimlocks I have experience did involve my Kel-Tec P-32 pistol.
The rimlock was with a GECO .32 acp fmj which is what I normally shoot in the gun along with the Sellier and Bellot FMJ ammo.
I have also shot silvertips through the pistol without problems.

for some

reason the kt32 was more notorious for rimlock issues than any other 32. can't see how loading the magazine has a darn thing to do with rimlock issues..

"The rimlock was with a GECO .32 acp fmj which is what I normally shoot in the gun along with the Sellier and Bellot FMJ ammo."

This surprises me.

I use only S&B in .32 ACP, and have never had a "rim lock" in any .32 I have owned.

I think the problem is either in specific guns, or is greatly exagerated.

FWIW, S&B is the hottest .32 I have found.

I am interested in S&B because I consistantly hear that they are pretty hot, but I have heard that S&B ammo has hard primers and NAA Guardians sometimes require a second strike before ignition. Can anyone confirm that?

Rimlock is lethal.

I learned the hard way, but not the real hard way.

My incident happened at the range. The first thing I do at the range is draw and fire from my conceal carry holster as I would have to do in the real world. I had been carrying the P-32 for a year with HP ammo and visiting the range every few months. One day I dropped into the range made the draw and pulled the slide in one continuous motion and released it to chamber that first round and the weapon jammed and I mean locked-up solid. "Rimlock" is really gun-lock. The slide will not move.

It took a few minutes of careful cussing to render the weapon safe and ready. The whole time I was thinking that in a real world situation I would have exposed the weapon and my intention to use it on the perpetrator and all I could do is throw it at them.

I corresponded with Keltec and they offered a HP magazine-conversion-kit for the P-32 to prevent rimlock. The kit is not on the website accessory list, but you can email Keltec for a part number and order it. The kit modifies the magazine by adding a spacer bar to the back of the magazine below the feed level so the HP rounds fit snugly front to back preventing rimlock.

I have tried to create a rimlock with these installed using Gold and Silver HP rounds and can't do it. Rounds will go rim to rim, that is the rims will sit on top of each other, but they can't seem to overlap and lock. The rim to rim condition is hard to create, but the ammo will feed without problem.

For the P-32 these kits are well worth it and the spacer can be removed in a few seconds to shoot round-nose-FM ammo at the range.

Lots of good advice previously given about care in magazine loading.
