I saw this posted on another site and wanted to repost for more to see.

The Army Corps of Engineers are opening a comment period to change the firearms regulations on Corps property. From my understanding the CoE is the last federal agency with independent firearms laws for the land they administer.

There are several ways to respond in the link. I don’t spend much time on CoE land but any chance to expand our rights is a victory.

Thanks for the heads up.

The Obama administration allowed state laws on carry to apply to National Parks and we should be arguing that the same should be the case on all Federally controlled land. There are considerable overlap with NPS and CoE controlled areas and consistency in favor of enumerated rights is important in helping citizens avoid inadvertently violating any rule. Since every state has Federally controlled land we could argue that Federal rules should follow the most liberal state carry laws, i.e. carry on Federally controlled lands should not require any permit and should have no restriction to be consistent across all Federally controlled lands in the country.

I wrote the following:

Dear Army Corps of Engineers,

I am writing in support of the proposed change in the rules to allow the carry of firearms on Corps-controlled lands and waterways.

As a 29-year veteran Law Enforcement Officer in California, I have seen countless laws regulating firearms enacted in Sacramento, and yet I have seen absolutely no drop in firearms related crime on the streets, violent or otherwise. It is clear that this ceaseless legislative assault on law abiding US citizen's rights to possess firearms is not intended to reduce crime, but is intended to eliminate the 2nd Amendment in its entirety one small cut at a time. Criminals don't care what the law says, they will flout it and ignore it if they so choose, leaving those who abide by the law defenseless.

By allowing legal possession of firearms by law abiding US citizens, the Army Corps will not be ceding the right to defense on Corps-controlled land to only those who choose to be offensive. Rather, the average person will have an option to possess a firearm for self-defense where they otherwise would be unable to without jumping through numerous bureaucratic hoops.

Please enact this proposal and allow those who choose to possess a firearm for defense the right to do so on Corps-controlled lands.

Stay safe.

I sent this comment today:
I fully support the proposed rule change, which will bring regulatory policy on CoE lands in concert with other national lands, and fully recognize the shared federal and state responsibilities and authorities with regard to firearms. The benefit of reducing burden on people travelling on COE lands, as well as eliminating a significant paperwork collection and storage responsibility for the CoE adds to the value of this rule change.
