I wish our governor would shut down our state government. Keep it shut, for all I care.

Let's see......... The guv shuts down government.

The Question: Will anyone notice? :D

Thanks, I'll be here all week............... :neener:

As far as the paychecks still rolling in, if it's like the federal shutdown, all those who are "essential" will be required to work without pay on their schedule, once the shut down is over and spending can resume, they will be paid for their time during the shutdown. The nonessential employees are just on vacation without pay....

Dummocrats of the PRNJ

what a bad joke...Corzine wants a 7% sales tax; the liberals in the legislature want property tax increases so they don't get voted out of office in November...nothing like throwing the local governments into the fire...but nothing substantial in SPENDING cuts, just tax increases...and a 4+ billion dollar deficit keeps on rollin'...:cuss:

The folks in PRNJ got just exactly what they voted for. I am LMAO! The only thing better would be if Corzine raises the income tax to 100%. Woo Hoo! I travel there on business often, PRKalifornistan too. Both places suck and I rejoice in their problems. They have brought their socialist pyramid scheme problems on themselves and I don't feel the least bit sorry for them. I minimalize my spending when I go to either place. I often take food with me. Can't be supporting the commies because they tax everything you know! Meanwhile their "constituents" are free to prey on me with low probability of negative consequence.

How could the government be shut down, yet issue orders?

Isn't it just like a Government, to think they are omniscient?

They claim they are "shut down" (i.e., no longer existent) yet their "agents" go to a private business (from which they were previously raking in a ""Bite") and shut it down, because the "protectors" from the government can't be there to "oversee" the casino workers?

If I owned the casino, I think I would seriously consider telling the government agent that came in to close my business, that he had no "authority" to do it since his "agency" was no longer currently operating, and therefore, no longer in existence. (unless of course, the agents were connected and then I would shut it quicker than you can say "Soprano" :)

but if he was just an agency rep, I would simply tell him that under my understanding of the statement by the former Governor, the State was no longer in existence.

That way, if the Government thought they were losing any actual funds from thier "bite" they would balance the budget, and open right back up.

Makes me wonder if the NJ Gov't can and should then shut down ALL business' which are licensed by the State, i.e. attorneys, engineers, Contractors, hairdressers/barbers, etc. since there is no one to "Regulate" them during this time of self imposed crisis???

It sure seems the left wing liberal parts of the country are self destructing.

This is all over a disagreement on which tax to raise. Lunatics in denial.

I think they need a book to follow: Government 101 for Dummies...

Now i've got a question here...

Perhaps one or two of the legal minds on this forum could clarify something for me...

Where does any government (local, state or federal) get the authority to order a private business to close just because the government agency providing oversight cannot pay its own bills?

If they have this authority by definition, has anyone considered the implications of, oh i dont know, the BATFE simply being defunded? Can anyone say "Instant national gun control"?

In order to make it as inconvenient as possible for the people of New Jersey, the state government deliberately shut down it's the most useful and popular features. It's nothing but a tactic to scare the people into accepting an unwanted tax increase.

They must have an inkling that 70% of the state government could shut down and nobody would care.

PRNJ budget widgets

Governor Jon Corzine submitted a $30.9 budget for fiscal year 2007, a 9.2 percent increase in spending over last year.
And that's with a 4+ BILLION dollar deficit!

The proposed budget increases spending by $2.6 billion and imposes $2 billion in new or increased taxes.

Reduced municipal aid - $40 million
(that's dummocrat speak for increased property taxes)... :banghead:

Spending Increases include:
State worker pension fund payments - $1.1 billion :scrutiny:
(thank you Crusty Todd Whitman for that untouchable permanent gem)...
and...
for my HighRoad.org friends:
Gun Violence Prevention - $750, 000 :scrutiny:

But the majority of voters in this state are liberals, so the sowing-and-reaping isn't too surprising...

This tells me that state spending has risen faster than inflation.

This tells me that state spending has risen faster than population growth.

In fact, this tells me state spending has risen faster than the product of inflation and population growth.

And it's not a matter of party - TX budget has been doing this for decades, and as for the Feds, just look at what the Bushmen have given us. :fire: :cuss: :banghead:

Shutting down worked for the Feds.....twice

Reagan shut down government offices on a Friday afternoon. Congress blinked and the Feds were back minding the store on Monday.

Newt Gingrich led the charge against Clinton and shut down government offices a bit longer. Newt and company lost the media war, but the ends justified the means as the evidence shows.

If Joisey state government wants to shut down, let 'em. Nobody is missing a bunch of socialist busybody politicians. The benefits of a shutdown, far outweigh state business as usual.

The casinos should have stayed open without government oversight and there isn't a court capable of ordering or enforcing their closure. The casinos make too much money to be seriously threatened by NJ action. Better to have people working than attempting to apply for unemployment at a closed State Dept. of Labor office.

Perhaps one or two sheeple's eyes will open up to freedom in the process.

NOT TRUE! :banghead:

The GOP congress passed a budget - more than once - which Clinton vetoed. So it was CLINTON shutting down the government. The Stupid Party spent all their time patting themselves on the back and the Democrats - aided by their willing accomplices in the media - let CLINTON shift the blame for HIS ACTIONS to the GOP. :banghead:

The best part about the casinos closing is that they are the ones that pay the NJ Casino Control Commission. The checks say State of New Jersey but the state gets that money from the casinos. Why the casinos haven't gotten a court to tell Corzine to get bent is beyond me.

HonorsDaddy, in order for a casino to get a state-issued license to operate, there must be supervision by the state employees of the gaming commission. This is to guard against skimming of the take, and to ensure the honesty of the games.

So, no Guvmint, no supervisors, and no action in the casinos. It would be the same in Nevada.

A buddy just called to say that he's working too hard and we should fly to AC Friday night. We'd talked about going the 21st, but he wants to go now.

"Uh, Danny, the casinos are closed."

He didn't believe me.

Jersey Shutdown the gov? I havent noticed... Well less traffic by the DMV but that is it.... This should happen more often...

Let me see if I have this straight....

Instead of an increase in the sales tax, they want to tax evil landlords and corporations....

My question is... Where do they think the evil landlords and corporations get money? Print it? Find it under their own personal money tree? Hmmmmmm, it is a mystery.

No! Wait! they will pass this cost right along to the people who rent or buy items from them.

Next time you hear a Demorat arguing that Wal-Mart et al doesnt pay enough taxes, ask yourself where they get their money. Then bend over and take it.

Don't worry fellow New Jerseyians, we will all end up paying for this mess one way or the other. Now that's the really sad part.

Not exactly. The reason the AC casions have closed is because the CCC people actually have offices in the casinos. They don't work the same way in Vegas. Vegas would be unaffected by a state shutdown. AC should be unaffected. As I wrote earlier, the casinos are the ones that pay the CCC wages and they are geting shafted...royally.

No Firearm Transfers

I am not familiar with NJ firearm laws, but I am trying to buy a pistol from a fella in NJ and he says he can't get a NICS check from his FFL because of the state shutdown and thus can't send me my purchase. Can anyone shed some light on the situation there?
