Just how much more expinsive is .45 compared to 9mm.
If not that much, I may just get a 1911 instead of a GLOCK, XD, or 92FS.

Whats the price of Colt 1911s?

Also, Colt or Springfield 1911s?

for .45ACP commercial ammo , cheapest at cheaperthandirt.com is Wolf .45 ACP 230gr FMJ 50 rnds/box at $7.69.

for 9mm commercial ammo cheapest at cheaperthandirt.com is Wolf 9mm 115gr FMJ 50 rnds/box at $5.79.

however, if you really wanna save $ , best bet is buying military surplus ammo at bulk.

Colt 1911 cost around $950-$2000 depending on models.

Springfield 1911 cost around $502-$1560 depending on models.

That's for Wolf, though. I still wouldn't put Wolf through any of my guns any more than I'd put kerosene in my car's tank. :barf:
(That and earning the emnity of fellow shooters an indoor range, because Wolf literally STINKS up the place...)

Cheapest I go is Winchester whitebox or CCI Blazer Brass, for which, yes, 45 ACP is a bit more costly to shoot than 9mm.

Generally speaking, a box of 50 shells of .45 is about $2 more than a box of 50 9mm.

.45 is generally at least 40% more expensive than 9mm. Cheapest 9mm plinking ammo where I live is $7 for 50. Cheapest .45 is $10.
For 9mm, you can often find surplus deals on 9mm and specials at certain discount stores for $4 or $5 for 50. You'll never touch that w/.45.
That being said, .45 does come "pre-expanded".

At WalMart 9mm Blazer Brass is $5.95/50, and 9mm Winchester White Box is $10.95/100. WalMart sells .45 ACP for about twice that ($11/50 for Blazer Brass and $22/100 for WWB). Once you factor in shipping costs, that is about as cheap as you'll find those brands on the Internet.

I buy at Wallmart and it runs me $11 for 100 rounds of 9mm and $19 for 100 rounds of .45. Thats why I love my 9mm. You can get a 9mm 1911 if you want.

I bought a new Colt LW Commander on Dec 28th for $790. A dealer in NC had the same gun for $755. That dealer in NC also had a new NRM 1991 Government in blue for $685. Thing about the Colts is finding someone with them in stock, or who is willing to order for you. Most distributors have a limited supply, also.

As for ammo, I go according to the WWB prices at Walmart. 100 rounds of 45ACP is $19.98. 100 rounds of 9mm is $11.34. If you get a reloader and use existing brass, you can reload 45ACP for the same, or lower than the price of 9mm. I'm reloading 45ACP with copper-plated bullets for about $9 per 100 rounds.....I've heard of casting your own bullets, buying in huge bulk quantities, and getting 45ACP down to $35-$40 per 1000 rounds.

Colt availability seems to go in spurts. I noticed that last month in the Minneapolis area all of the local gun shops had new Colt 1911s in stock. Normally you're lucky to find one shop that has them in stock.

Not a big deal but I find that not to be the case. My total including shipping for 1000 rounds of Blazer Brass from Natchez was just under $187. This comes out to be $9.35 a box to my door. Yes there is a shipping cost but at Walmart I would have to pay 6.5% sales tax so the 1000 rounds would be $230+ $14.95 or about $245.

That's a $58 discount - assuming you were going to Walmart already and don't mind a bit more lugging around.

Now it's not always Natchez and it's not always Blazer Brass, but usually one of the big internet sellers like CTD, Midway, ammoman, Natchez etc will have a good deal on some decent practice-quality 230gr FMJ, and I don't have to put up with WalMart, which I never go to if I can help it unless I'm out of ammo for any reason.

Stainless Springfield "Loaded" models run $679.88 in my locale. I don't
carry the Colt NRM's; but I do carry the Kimber line. I just got a most
excellent deal on a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special model 1911 .45
ACP. BTW, that has become my most expensive handgun thus far~!
