My wife, daughter and I were going to Costco today and by the entrance my wife saw a sign saying "firearms are not permitted on the premises." I have never seen this sign before so I cannot say if it had been there in the past. I intend to write a letter to the corporate offices letting them know I will no longer be shopping with them, my card expires at the end of this month and I will not be renewing it.

If this has been discused before I did not see it in my search and I was not sure it belonged in Activism.

Here we go again.

This has been posted before. I was in Costco in Mass yesterday and there was no sign. I was one in CT, about a month ago, and again no sign. This must be a regional or the store mangers issue.

It has been discussed before and it seems to be individual stores putting the signs up. I think people have gotten them taken down before.

Its a little give and take. Do you ABSOLUTELY obey every single road/warning/advisory/speed limit sign you come across? If you do, you are a better man than me.

maybe its not the High Road way but if its concealed, no one needs to know about it. On all the other places you go that allow CCP, do you run up to the mgr on entering the building and let him know you are carrying?

I dunno man, I know losing your license would be terrible but my safety is more important than some leftist beliefs.
I do firmly believe, that in todays society if I was in college in a state that allowed CCP, I would carry on campus without a doubt. *shrugs*

You should be asked to leave the property if "Made", only failure to leave the property when asked should result in a Trespassing charge.

This is the way Virginia handles it.

I live in the heart of liberality, King County Washington, home of corporate Costco headquarters. I shop frequently at Kirkland (the flagship store that contributed their homebrand name) and in Woodinville, just up the road. I have never seen a "no firearms" sign in one of their stores, ever.

Sponge & Bob.....hey...spongebob....LOL

Anyway, fellow Washingtonian here (Snohomish). You've got to admit, as leftist as our state is, we have the anomoly of having some pretty open gun laws. Except for a total MG ban, we've got some of the most gun friendly laws here. Maybe it harkens back to the early days of our state, and it's really anarchist roots.

Now..if we could only get Costco to carry Wolf ammo in 6 case packs!!

Okay - I'll try to put this simply. Bitching about it online does NOTHING. It's kinda like farting when you're the only one in the locker room.

You have to act.

1) The manager says they don't want your money. So don't shop there. Concealed or not.

AND... (because point #1 is worth nothing if you do not do point #2)

2) Call/write/email corporate headquarters. Don't write a three-page letter on RKBA, the constitution, and the demise of England's vast round the world kingdom. Keep it simple: "You put this sign up at this store, so I cannot shop there anymore. I will shop there after it comes down. Thank you." NEVER tell them that you will never again shop there - that tells them that they've lost you regardless. Keep it open.

WHERE was the costco? We need to know. Do you have info like store number, etc., etc?

Last I looked, Sam's isn't posted.

Don't know that #2 would be effective, bogie.

I agree, haole_boySS. I like the attitude about the subject.

One of these won't do a thing. A million of them certainly will open some eyes. Good job! Keep it up!

I've been sending letters the past couple of weeks, practically non-stop. Have got a healthy bill for stamps at the store. Every little bit helps folks to realize the true impact of stupidity, of insupportable policies, of the effect of disregarding percentage of the population that owns firearms.

Scanr, you don't need to worry

Yes, but you can loose your license if you are caught and it's the principle of the thing.

Principle, yes I agree.
However here in NV you can be asked to leave & if you don't you can get a ticket for trespass and maybe a lecture.

Costco isn't a public building its a biz.

I carry all the time despite signs saying not to, if asked to leave I will.

I don't know about other states but here in Northern NV most folks seem to mind their own business, the only signs I've ever seen were real small and seem to be there for insurance and little else.

oh...btw...how many times a year do we get the costco anti ccw thread?

If you're a CCW holder and you're carrying you have the responsibility as an American to the rest of your RKBA friends here on THR to not violate any gun laws.

Personally, I'm all about proving that gun control just puts guns in the hands of people who violate the law. Let's prove that folks they've trusted with CCW are of the elitest civilians who follow the law to the letter.

Turn around and go to their competitors, that's the best possible thing you can do. It hurts them for not trusting the CCW holders to be responsible and for violating the civil rights of their customers.

Costco is building one here in western part of Omaha,Ne. If they have a sign posted saying no guns,I will talk to the manager of the store and tell him do you support armed criminals in your store, then let them in and I will see you someother time when you take your sign down. And then still not do any business with them because,of their head honcho that donates my money to the left side[anti gun DEMS]. Rich Ziemies,Omaha,Ne.:cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

The Costco I shop at is posted with a rules sign that is hung high above the front interior door. The last rule says no weapons--no knives--no guns. I have been carrying there for over 2 years and I finally saw the sign a few months ago.
I talked to the manager on duty and basically asked about this and asked if that included those with a CCP. She said-- OH if you have a permit to carry --that is OK. This is in Aurora CO.

Why is it that the whim of a store manager or a corporation can nullify the Second Amendment by posting a sign?

QUICK CIVICS LESSON: The Second Amendment is to prevent the government from placing restrictions. Property owners have the right to have gun free zones just like you can prohibit me from wearing a leopard skin Speedo at your barbecues.

just like you can prohibit me from wearing a leopard skin Speedo at your barbecues

"Private" property rights aside, I submit that wearing a speedo near a BBQ is an extremely poor decision.

The Costco in Prescott AZ had a no weapons sign (visible only as you were leaving, ***?) for many years. Recently I noticed it wasn't there any more. I never paid it much mind either way, I even open carried through Costco a few times without anyone raising an eyebrow.

Yes, but you can loose your license if you are caught and it's the principle of the thing.

Must be a State by State thing. Fairly positive in Idaho all the store can do is tell you to leave or take your weapon back out to your car. If you don't comply they can trespass you, but then they can't detain you for trespassing. Only way you can get nailed for that is if you are still there when the police arrive.

I haven't really paid much attention but I think the only place that is posted "no weapons" in Boise is the mall and the video arcades, which I never go to anyways. I'm sure there is other stores and such but I don't even pay attention to the "pull/push" labels on the doors let alone anything else on them.
