This is a bit off topic but I just purchased some more silver bullion today that I got a decent price on. Coincidently, it's Nazi 5 reichmarks coins that are not in collectible condition and are worth only their silver value. Inscribed on the rim of each coin is "The Common Good Before The Interest Of The Individual." Sounds strangely like what they're teaching in the schools today. I want my country back!!!! :banghead:

While it is clear to me that the 2nd is an individual right, it is not without limitations. I know of no Amendment that is without some limitation.

Whether one wants to admit it or not, there are always limits on the rights of an individual so that the society is better off.

I don't think anyone and everyone has the right to own a gun. I agree with some age limits, and limits imposed by the history of the individual.

"No man is an island," and laws in many/most cases are imposed to counter the lack of responsibility of individuals. I agree that many are pure nonsense, but the reason we have so many gun laws probably starts with the assassination of President Kennedy. That incident changed gun laws in a very major way.

So the 2nd is an individual right, but not without restrictions.

Best,
Jerry

This is true but one of the things being argued is this amendment should have a lower level of scrutiny than any of the other amendments in the BoR.

Whether one wants to admit it or not, there are always limits on the rights of an individual so that the society is better off.

I think it would be more correct to say there are limits on an individuals actions not on his rights. Such as my right to swing my arms around wildly ends just before making contact with another's nose at that point I am violating the rights of another and may be charged with a crime or asked to apologize.

I agree, those who are convicted of a crime should have their rights to own or possess a firearm taken away and jailed until they are judged to be no threat to society at which time they should be allowed to own a firearm again. I disagree with you on age limits.

I think most laws are actually passed so Bill and Suzy Suburban-Homemaker feel like their congresscritter is doing something to make them safer. I also think very few of our laws actually have any impact at all other than that illusion of safety. For example how do gun control laws impact any but the law abiding? How much harder is it really for Joey Gangbanger to get a handgun today than in 1968? How many school shootings occured prior to 1968?

So the 2nd is an individual right, but not without restrictions.

What part of "shall not be infringed" is difficult to comprehend?
The restrictions should be on actions that infringe on the rights of others not restrictions on the type, possession or bearing in public of arms.
