cowboy action shotguns

Shot my first cowboy match(WOW!) the other day. Noticed a couple SxS shotguns that would eject the empty shells by tipping the muzzles upward. I figure the chambers were polished. Has anyone done this to their shotgun and how did they do it?( OOPS I think I posted in the wrong place!)

I didn't have to do any polishing with my Spartan SxS. The chambers were already slick enough that I break it open and the shells drop out clean with a little muzzle elevation. I know that some guns require polishing, but I think that the type of shells that you use also makes a difference. I shoot Winchester AA exclusively, the featherlights when I can find them, and the lightest loads when I can't. The AA shell is pretty slick, and they slide right out.

I shot CAS for a long time

and started long enough ago that my number is in the 10,000 level - now over 70K from what I hear!

My first shotty was a 20 guage stoeger side by side. I had to disable the ejector as that's not allowed in SASS. Further, I polished the chambers so that they would release the spent shells with a little jerk downwards when the action was open - works very well.

I used a brush with steel wool chucked into a drill to start and finished with the same brush only with a cleaning patch wrapped around it with lapping compound on it - mirror bright!

Later, I started shooting a 12 guage Win 94.

Got me - I meant 97, not 94

Mine's pretty cool - its a sawed-off model with Well's Fargo markings and sheild inset into the buttstock. I bought it for a "shooter" price many years ago as I'm pretty sure it's a duded up situation and not a genuine WF firearm - the reason? Because they didn't inlay shields and such into their guns - just etched markings, which mine has too, but it's still suspect. Nontheless, its a great CAS shotty:

I use an old Aramberri Y Sons SxS and the chambers were already polished enough that a slight tip and a "jerk" back dumps the hulls every time. Had somebody question it once 'cause they though I had ejectors

I have a Stoeger SXS in 12 Gauge. One of the best value CAS shotguns out there. I picked up mine for $250 bucks and it handles BP and Smokeless just fine, although BP is more fun to shoot.

As to ejecting them apart from polishing, ensure you dont shoot shotshells with grooves down the side, they stick or drag sometimes and also develop a quick flick or jerk of the gun, left hand on the forend pushes back sharply, followed by a forward push by the right hand on the pistol grip or vice versa if you are a south paw. The actual jerk only needs to be an inch or so to disloge them and send them out of the way.

Almost the most fun you can have with your clothes on isn't it?

To the degree that shells stick in the chamber, it usually at the front after the crimp opens up after they are fired.
