My inlaws (my choice hunting spot) is being infiltrated by coyote. Rumors among the other farming nieghbors bring the total to about 5-6. One has been shot already. Cool thing is we can hunt then 365 days 24/7. We can bait as well. I need to get rid of them fast. Does anybody have any experience getting a coyote out in the open?? If you do please let me know what is best for drawing them out.

Thanks for the help.

the texas predator posse a blog with hints and helps for predator hunting... calls, any catalog,,, for help just offer to take a experenced predator caller and then steel his tricks....

Here is what I do. I guarantee this to work.

-Get yourself a battery poweredboombox. or radio that will play cassettes or CD's.
-Buy a cassette or CD at Walmart for Predator calls. Preferably dying rabbit.
-get something that vaguely resembles a rabbit and mount it to a stick out in said field.
-Get yourself some Remington Hevi-shot Dead Coyote shells.

Sit under a tree about 40-50 yards from the "stuffed rabbit". Play the tape with the boombox near you and wait. Pretty soon the coyote's will show up. Then just shoot 'em. It's worked for me

#6's may be light for an animal the size of a coyote. Hevi-Shot is more effective than lead due to weight and shot configuration. I'd use lead 2's or BB's, Hevi-Shot in 2's maybe or 4's at the smallest

There are quite a few tapes and DVD's about coyote hunting. I got some good ones at Gander Mountian by Byron South.

Also you can get some ideas from Predator Xtreme (magazine) and from the Coyote Gods website. Google "coyote hunting"

Coyotes have a better sense of smell than deer and are super smart and wary. Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks gang for all your input. I will do some additional research. the #6 shot I have is actually the HeviShot...but that is too expensive & too good an ammo to waste on a mangy dog...then again maybe not as the end result may prove helpful.

I will post followups with what I come up with.

We used to hunt ferral dogs/coy dogs in Texas. If you can bait like you said, camo up a good spot, wear your scent blockers, get a good call as previously mentioned and buy a bag of cheap dog food.

set up your blind then set up the call and dog food about 150 yards away. Setup a good rest and just wait. You will have plenty of time to pick your shot and put them down quick.
