To add: You cannot transfer a Michigan license to obtain an Arizona one. You will have to go through the whole procedure (classroom instruction, written test, shooting qualification, background check, etc.) but if you did this in Michigan, Arizona shouldn't be too difficult. Also you can apply for and obtain an Arizona license before you have resident status.
Well this is a little inaccurate. I contacted the azdps.gov CCW branch regarding the issue, and I received this response not long ago:
"Yes, a copy of your Michigan permit does meet the training requirement for an Arizona permit.
Please provide us with your mailing address, so that an application packet with instructions can be sent to you."
AZ DPS
CCW
Also according to AZDPS website, if you have already been fingerprinted in another state, you do not have to be printed again.
I guess I kinda jumped the gun on asking the question here, as AZDPS answer my questions both electronically and verbally over the phone.
BTW, I will be heading out that way to get my license and register my vehicles before I make the move. I already own a house out there and have for a long time, I visit the state about once a month. This was just one of the things I was not well informed on. The big reason I am asking is because I am going to transfer my information down there to my AZ address, get a license and register/plate my vehicles BEFORE I physically move to AZ, because my house here is sold and that will become my legal domicile and residence. The reason I want to get a CCW permit is because even though residents and non residents can carry in AZ with or without a permit, you CANNOT in michigan. But Mich recognizes AZ permit. A Michigan permit with AZ license and plates wont do me much good, probably land me in jail and with some hefty fines. So if I have all my documents in order, then I will be on the safe side.
And yes I already have my taxes and the legal jamble figured out for residing in one state but working in another. I verified with two lawyers on how to go about this, really not too difficult. But the permit is a serious thing for me because it is required in Michigan.
Thanks for the input fellas!
