I live in Oregon and carry regularly. Here in Oregon we are not required to inform a police officer if we have a ccw when we get pulled over.

Is it the same in WA? Or do I have to inform them? I recently acquired a WA state cpl and am going there for business next weekend.

Thanks

There is no requirement to inform. If the officer asks to see your CPL and it is in your possession, you are required to show it.

Funny story, I was stopped for speeding and had my gun on my hip in the car - open carrying as in not concealed on my body, but the officer didn't see it during the traffic stop. It all went normal, until the very end when he asked me to get out of the vehicle! :D

He went between our cars so I got out and met him there, open carrying. He had to see my gun, not much chance he could miss it, but never said a word about it, he just wanted to "lecture" me in private not in front of my family before letting me go with a verbal warning.

I couldn't leave the gun in the car because nobody else in the car had a CPL and it would have to have been unloaded.

There is no duty to inform from what I recall, but study the laws there.

FWIW, having a current WA CPL (still good), and having had an OR permit (voided when I moved out of state), and having had interactions in both states with LEO (traffic stops), I always disclosed that I was carrying out of courtesy to them-and i never had a problem.

Not that it really matters LT, was the LEO local, or State PD??

Thanks for the info. I figure if an leo ever told me to step out of the car I would mention something about the ccw. For a routine traffic stop I don't really see the point.

I've had two traffic stops carrying. The first, the gun was in the glove box. As soon as I stopped, I went in the glove box, got the folder with the registration/insurance and closed the glove box before the cop ever got to my window. Gun was just not an issue then, it was in the closed glove box the whole time.

The second time, I got my wallet out before the cop came to the window, so I didn't have to go anywhere near my gun while he was there.
