What we've really seen in the last few years that police are given carte blanche to use deadly force without any real reason. This is a twofold problem:

1. poor training.
2. held to a much laxer standard when using deadly force than Joe Schmoe.

Really?? You got some hard numbers to back that up or are you basing this assumption on what you read on the internet? Time to put up or shut up. Nothing less then hard verifiable numbers on the number of shootings nationwide by LE, the number of shootings nationwide by civilians, a breakdown of the training of everyone involved and hard numbers that show that LE was held to a laxer standard then civilians will suffice.

The days of people coming on here and spewing things they can't prove in these discussions are over. If you want to have any credibility, you'll prove this twofold problem exists or you'll withdraw your statement.

There it is, the gauntlet has been thrown down.

I've never heard of something similar happening with a concealed weapon permit holder with his own carry gun

were you looking? we had obe lat week guy shot 2 kids girl friend and then himself

would someones ccwstatus normally even come up?

Just google "arrested officers" you will have enough reading material for quite some time. I sincerely doubt that anyone has compiled a spreadsheet comparing CCW crime to police crime.

csmkersh, do you honestly believe that if Sean Bell had been shot by 3 civilians it'd have been front page, above the fold, first item on the evening news nationwide every time anyone involved with the incident hiccupped?

To the original poster:

You've found sources to identify the rate at which CCW permitholders are either charged with or convicted of crimes.

To find a source for similar data on police officers, all you have to do is read the daily paper, or watch the evening news. Because, if it's a COP that's doing it, it will be....front page, above the fold, first item on the evening news.....

Wow. glad to know that anything posted regarding LEO on this forum now requires "hard numbers" to back it up.... I'm appalled by this post.

White, do you honestly believe that if Sean Bell had been shot be 3 civilians they'd still be walking the street? That's just the latest incident. And if anyone needs to put up or shut up, it's you.

Why would civilians have been confronting Bell to start with? It's not their job to stop street crime.

Your argument is a complete non-starter. Apples and oranges. No civilian would have had the right nor the duty to try to apprehend Bell and his friends that night.

And I'm appalled by the members who think they can just throw any outrageous claim out there and not be challenged on it. I am prepared to back my statements with fact. So from now on, if you are going to make a blanket statement, you'd better be able to back it up with facts.

What's so appalling about that?

Jeff

Well, this is one THR guy with a CCW who's not an LEO. FWIW.

Anyhow, the plural of "anecdote" is not "statistic". Same for, "My opininion is..." or, "I think that..."

Ergo, to wit and therefore, it's nighty-night for this thread.
