I'm looking to purchase 1k 9mm military once fired and it say crimped primer pockets.

I'm torn between using the crimp removal tool maybe in a drill or buy a swager.

Can I use a RCBS swage die set for 9mm?

Unless you get those really, really cheap, I would pass personally. When I come across a 9mm with a crimped primer pocket, they usually get trashed. 9mm is very plentiful and cheap so its easy to avoid having to deal with crimped primers. If you have to buy a new tool to process them, I would just buy non-crimped brass in the first place. Save time and cash.

Just my opinion - others may enjoy removing crimps from tiny brass.

i use the rcbs swage die but with 9, it is a challenge. You Have to kind of guide the case and since 9's are so short watch out for your fingers. I still have better luck with the die than the drill.

I agree, and I'll go one further, unless they were free. There are just too many non crimped cheap 9MM cases out there.

ill be paying $50 for them unprocessed but wet tumbled.

I belong to a gun club but if your not there at 7am all the brass buckets are empty and there is only one indoor range by me and your not even allowed to pick up your own brass let alone anything else cause they sell it.

I have a reamer already but didn't know about reaming or swaging 9mm.

I like reloading and all the steps including de-crimping primer pockets. Some operations are more fun than other, but all are OK, just a part of the process. Being a lifelong machinist/mechanic when I first encountered crimped primer pockets several years ago, I immediately thought of a countersink to remove the crimp. Having several in my tool box, I tried one. Worked great. Over the years I've tried reamers and "pocket reforming" tools, no swages, but for ease of use, I still use a plain old 60 degree countersink, It's worked on foreign and domestic military brass, 9mm, 45 ACP, 30-06 and 308. If I'm in a hurry (rarely!) I can chuck the countersink in my drill press (or hand drill) and run through a bunch rather quickly... http://www.mcmaster.com/#countersinks/=12frgcn

(Nope I haven't removed too much metal and the most I've ever found necessary is mebbe a .020" break on the corner of the pocket)

I would not want it if it was free. To many out there selling once fired non crimped for less than 50.00.

There are places online where you can buy 2,000 pieces of once fired wet tumbled 9mm brass for $40. And you don't have to remove a crimp.

IF you decide to buy the crimped 9MM this is what I do.

For rifle brass I will swage the brass as the primer pocket lasts longer than one that has some material removed. I proved this works with my max power rifle reloads.

For handgun ammo the time to swage the brass is not worth it as I usually loose the brass before it fails so I choose to ream the pockets to save time. That said, I once had a lot of 250 TZZ 45 ACP brass that was crimped and the large crimp remover was already in the press so I did swage them all.

BTW I use the CH4D swager that sits on top of the press and uses the standard shell holders. It is easy to use and quite fast IMHO. I also have The RCBS one I never use anymore as it is a pain to have to readjust the internal pin with each headstamp change. YMMV

Up to you but I agree not worth the hassle in 9mm unless the brass is free or really really cheap.

I gather about 500 +/- rounds of mixed 9mm range brass a week at the private range I belong too. Out of that maybe 50 or so are crimped.

I toss them.

I will keep some of the other calibers that are crimped but 9mm just isn't worth it.

I have about 10,000 rounds of processed/sorted 9mm brass right now. People really like Blazer ammo around here, followed by Speer

500 mixed headstamped 9mm brass, cleaned and inspected for $19.99 w/free shipping. I am not involved with then, just googled them and it looks good.

Midway USA has 1000 once fired for $26.50 on clearance.

I seen the midway stuff but got a few bad reviews. I'll probably give that a try though. I noticed my club a lot of handgun stuffs steel and a lot of the 223 steel seems like guys grab all the other in morning when I'm at work
