Someone recommended Crimson Trace Lazergrips for low-light shooting.

How well do they work during broad daylight?

Daylight they can be seen for a bit, about 25 feet or so, but visible at close range, if what you're worried about is point shooting. Bright as the sun at night!

Daylight, useless. maybe as the other post says 25 Ft but hard to see. At night, Dusk, interior light, Great. Easy to see for a distance enough to hit any target. For what you ask in low light you'll have no problems.

Iron sights or Red Dots are King outside in daylight.

Lasers, laser/lights are King when it's too dark to see the iron sights, or when point shooting, etc.

I have one of the bright green lasers that can be seen in daylight out to about 100 yards.
IMO I still don't like using the laser when the iron sights can be seen.

I practice with the laser a good amount, at least two evenings a week, and IMO the laser and better yet the laser/light own the night.
Very fast and very accurate.

Even a "belly gun" like the Kel Tec P3AT benefits from a (ARMA) laser.:)

And the laser is especially good for us old farts. Shooting without wearing my glasses.:D

Crimson Trace laser on a 2 inch barrel S&W J Frame.
Standing, 10 yards, shooting left handed from the hip. (I'm right handed)
Some fun. :D

I like the idea of the crimson trace on guns with less than ideal sight systems. I want to put a pair on my snubbie chief's special S&W because the groove and thin post are hard enough to see in daylight, much less low light. Just don't let yourself get to a point where you rely on the laser beyond the sights because Murphy's law tells us that the battery will die the day you need it...

Like everyone else said, in bright daylight you are lucky to get 20 feet from them. Overcast is much better and in the dark they are better for farther than you should be shooting. About the batteries dying, it doesn't happen suddenly, the dot gets dimmer with each trip to the range.

I'm price shopping for Crimson Trace grips for my Beretta 21A 22LR.
Although once in a while I might stick the little 22 in my pocket for a quick trip to Wal Mart, I'm not putting the CT on the Beretta for carry.

I'm going through a lot of 38 Special ammo practicing with the laser. I figure substituting the Beretta for much of the practice will pay for the Crimson Trace in a few months.:)

I can only speak for my personal experience, but for what that's worth I find:

In low light/nighttime conditions the Laser dot is bright and can be seen for at least 2acres. (440'?). I know because I can shine my Crimson Trace equipped Sig P239 or my S&W J-frame 638 from my back porch into my buddy's garage with no difficulty..

It was fun the first time watching my friend and his son-in-law "ducking" when they saw the laser dot... (His son-in-law is in the Army, and in fact in Iraq now) so he picked up on the dot pretty quick..

The firearms were unloaded, obviously.

During daytime conditions at self defense range (for me 0-7') the red dot is visible and would be effective for self defense use. I find this to be true even under bright daylight conditions, and obviously overcast, or lower light just makes it easier to see.

I don't see battery life as a problem.. In the first place the little batteries last a long, long time.. I replace them yearly as I do my smoke alarm batteries and when replaced they were still bright and strong. The batteries are available anyplace, and are inexpensive.

When i bought my CT grips for my SIG P239 a promotion was in effect that gives me free batteries for life.. I'm an old fart, so that might not be as good a deal as for you spring chickens, but I'll have to say Crimson Trace is a fantastic company, and Customer Service is excellent.

I recommend Crimson Trace Lasergrips big time.. Great product, great company, great customer service... You won't be disappointed with the performance of Crimson Trace Lasergrips..

Best Wishes,

I installed Crimson Trace grips onto my shortened 4.25" barreled Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull.

The laser works great and are very accurate out to 25 yards, I really haven't taken the time to try beyond that though.

These are probably the most punishing grips I have ever used on a revolver until I ground off the area at the top left rear screw. That bit thumped me in the thumb joint terribly... :what:
