Spikes M4le 16" Carbine Flat top w/ A2 Front Sight

~Smith VORTEX G6 Flash Hider
~Ergo Grip
~Standard 2 point web sling
~Standard Carbine 6 Positon Stock
~Standard M4 Double Heat Shields Handguards
~Eotech 512/A65
~Three 30 round mags
(i have no buis)

I use the rifle as my primary home defense gun. Besides that i just take it to the range about once a month and punch around 500 holes in paper.

Am i missing gear? Any suggestions?

I would put some sort of rear flip up or other iron of choice as a backup, otherwise, seems like a good setup.

a tactical light.
that, and get rid of the A2 front sight so that yiu have a better field of vision. You aren't really using it, so right now it's just a chunk of steel in your sight picture.

definetly not moe, i hate the look. bad expierences with tapco. I had troy on the top of my list when i looked for quadrails in the past.

Midwest Industries makes a decent drop in quad rail, you can get KAC RAS seconds (cosmetic blemishes, but new) for fairly cheap as well, and Troy makes good stuff too. Aside from the light and backup irons mentioned above, I'd look into a sling. Either a Viking VTAC or Blue Force Gear VCAS. I think these offer a big improvement over the standard web sling: better retention, better for side to side transitions, and still useful as a shooting sling.

if you're going to run an eotech, you'd better have BUIS

seems like a reasonable setup though. most of the things are preference. i.e. i cannot stand the standard stock. but i like the standard grip ok.

the DD omega is a good quadrail if you need one, because you won't have to disassemble the barrel to install it

Definitely need a good quality light. I would keep the A2 Front Sight Base and handguards and go with this light mount: link

FIRST thing you need to do before adding anything is make sure what you've got is right. I don't know how Spikes does things so I'm not picking on them.

-Remove the Bolt Carrier Group. Does it have a firing pin shroud? Does it have a full circle design at the back end? If the answer to either of these is NO, replace the carrier with one that has both
-Are the gas key bolts properly staked? If not, they need to be. It's best if you remove the bolts, clean the threads and clear away any burrs before doing so, and torquing them properly before re-staking. I don't know what the torque value is supposed to be
-Make sure the gas rings are in place and in good condition
-If it's a carbine length gas system, setting up the extractor correctly is essential. You must use the correct spring and the proper "O" ring is strongly reccomended
-Check to make sure the stock castle nut is properly staked. If not, it will eventually shoot loose

These things may not be a problem with a Spikes carbine but it doesn't hurt to check and it will doing them will teach you what to look for

Finally
-Lube the BCG thoroughly

Forgot to add
-Good magazines are a MUST! Get alloy mags with the latest tan MagPul followers and good springs or just get the Magpul composites

For a home defense weapon a good set of iron sights make a lot more sense to me than and expensive holo sight. The money saved would have bought a boat load of ammo. It sounds like a very nice setup though.

What stock do you run?

well, lots. i have a multiple magpul CTR and UBR, and an old M93B and a PRS. I have 3 LMT SOPMODs. an ACE stock. and of course, some ARs with the standard old A2 rifle and M4 carbine stocks (the former being required by CMP/NRA service rifle rules and the latter being on an investment gun i don't intend to shoot).

just my opinion, but different stocks for different types of guns. of those, i would not buy the PRS or ACE stocks again. On some guns, the more solid feel of the heavier UBR seems appropriate. On other guns, the lighter CTR feels better. The LMT is good all-around

thanks taliv, i could definetly not spend the money for some of those, like the ubr. The stock would probably be the last thing i replace and i would go with a sopmod

like i said, it's preference. If you like the stock that came with it, there's no reason to ever change. if you don't and want to keep expenses to a minimum, then look at magpul's MOE, which is like the CTR, only cheaper without the locking mechanism.

Nice rifle...wrong HD gun! The proper HD gun will always be a pump or semi-auto shotgun.

Don't feel bad...I've done that many times. Now I have too many damn rifles AND shotguns! :banghead:
