OK, so I just drawn into the "Beat the Tax" last minute rush at Amazon and bought a CRKT Hissatsu with the Outburst assisted opening feature...a rod inside the liner applying pressure to the rotating portion of the blade...and can't seem to make it open

The instructions say to just push forward, along the knife's mid-line to open it...that obviously isn't going to work on the disc screwed across the top of the blade. But pushing the disc outward isn't working so well either. I'm not sure if it is my little girly thumbs or if there is some trick to this...the pressure being applied by the rod seems a little excessive.

My first thought is to just remove the assist...I no longer have a problem opening folding knives (thanks hso)...but thought I'd ask here first if there is some trick I am missing.

Thanks

9mm,
The Hissatsu opens differently from most CRKT's.
My delegate and Firespark took some getting use to.

I think more of a downward pressure with forward push might be the answer.

Also they are awful tight and a good lube to the pivot would be beneficial.

Then again I could be way off base. Good luck. ;)

I ran into about the same thing with one of two Kershaw Leeks I just bought.

One took an excessive amount of force to open with the thumb stud, although the carson flipper worked just fine.

I finally tore it apart tonight and found a tiny bur on the inside of the spring cover hanging onto the spring.

Stoned it off, re-lubed with GunSlick Graphite grease, and it will open with a flick of the thumb now, even if you got an old broken thumb joint like mine.

I think some of these things will need either a gunsmith blessing, or some serious break-in time flipping it open and closed a few hundred times & re-lubing as necessary before they work as designed.

But I can assure you, it will be worth the effort once it is working right.

I put a drop of Militec-1 (what was handy) in the contact area and will work it a bit...if it doesn't get better, dis-assembly is next...I'll have to go get a Torx #6 driver

I think that is where this is going

I think it is just a bit out of spec. If the 2nd is the same, I'll look into tweaking it a bit

Oh well, didn't really improve enough to make a difference.

I just sent Amazon an e-mail. They sent me a return label and have another knife on it's way...should be here Thursday

Mine was the same way, to the point if my thumb tip getting a little chewed up lol. I'm not exactly sure what the perfect procedure I used was but eventually you just kinda get it abs it gets way easier

The replacement is due today...it has been on the road for just over an hour.

I like the feel...not too sure about the kink in the sweep of the edge, looks superficial and gimmicky...of it in the hand. If it has the same opening issues, I'd likely put a little more effort into it to get it to where I want it.

There isn't much sense in keeping the Outburst feature if it isn't an improvement over the speed I can now open my Spyderco Wenger...on a draw out of the pocket

It just came and it is much easier to open...seems like it was just the location of the spring on the pivot. Lubed it up and working it now.

I'm pretty happy with it and the CS from Amazon

I'd be real happy with the CS too, and whoever delivered it.

You must live across the street from Amazon for all that to happen in 24 hours!!!

It took UPS 3 days to get my last knife order the first 1,100 miles, and another 3 days to get them the last 27 miles to my house!!
Six days total.
