I won this 999 Sportsman at auction, and I had noticed in one the pictures that the rear sight looked crooked. I thought it was just a shadow but looking at it today, it is crooked. Can't pick it up for another 10 days (CA rules) so all I can do is wait and hope it's just a set screw that got on the wrong side of the sight.
Anyone else experience this on an H&R 999?
Hoping something isn't broken and made from unobtanium.

I just played around with the rear sight blade on my 999. Mine sits flush (even) but while pushing the blade in different directions there was a little play. Almost like there was spring tension. Probably manipulate it once it’s home and might pop into place. Sight itself seems very sturdy. Bet it’s something simple.

I’ve had the 999 for close to over a decade and have yet to shoot it. Not like I’m avoiding it.

I loved mine, foolishly sold it, my dumb butt. Sigh. I hope it's an easy fix. :)

As long as it doesn't fall out and holds adjustment, I would leave it alone. It looks to me like the slot it fits in is much larger than the sight and that allows the sight to sit crooked in the slot. I don't think anything is actually bent.

If it is bent, I would straighten it out. If I couldn't do that I would shoot it as is. I doubt the sight would affect the shooting ability.

Yep. The slot looks wider and the sight adjusting set screws possibly got on the opposite sides of the sight blade.

Looking at my similar era 999, the slot is wider than the sight blade. It's probably worth removing the sight blade and checking the engagement tabs and the set screws themselves. Could be that flat tip set screws have been installed to replace the cone tip set screws.
