If you need to pay someone to move it then sell it to someone out there and buy another when you get where you are going. If you are moving it yourself then it might be worth it (provided that you have enough gullible friends on the receiving end to help you unload the monster).

Call a few contract carriers, such as Allied Van Lines. Most moving companies have a 2000 pound minimum, but there may be additional costs related to relocating the safe depending on a number of things. Portage fees could also apply depending on how close the truck could park to the house on both ends of the move.

I can't get that thing up the stairs myself. My stairway is so narrow the professional movers had a little trouble navigating it up.
I'd like to get a 2nd floor place where I relocate for tact..er...safety reasons, and chances are will have no friends where I relocate...so I'll probably have to do the mover route.

For the actual haul, rent a truck with a power-lift tailgate.
An 800-pound safe is easy to move, if you make a "road" of plywood and have lots of marbles. I moved my monster through three rooms, that way--and all by myself.
Stairs? It's slow, but I've used a come-along for such heavy stuff.
But it's a lot easier to do as suggested and sell the safe. They're still selling new ones, most anywhere you go.

Just moved 2 safes a week ago.
Called the local safe companies. Got one bid of $1000 to move em. These were heavy jewelry safes.
Called Bekins. $85 per hour covered 2 guys. Minimum 4 hour charge..$340
Only took em 2 1/2 hours door to door and one delivered to a customer's house.
Don't know what the cross country hauling charge would be but every time I have moved safes (with the exception of a Russian gang that did it almost free) Bekins has been the place to call.

It's been a while, but when I bought my safe in kali - around '94 I think - the cost for shipping it to my home in FL was only about $200. Took about three weeks to arrive as it was part of a general shipment to the area.

This will take some calls and will depend on how attached you are to stuff.
Overall, if I had a 1200 square foot house totally furnished and wanted to keep it all I would hire someone to move it all. I would make sure they knew about the safe and could handle it and pay for it all.
Since I am a single cheap bum I move stuff myself. I moved my sister who had way too much stuff from illinois to ohio. I drove up and moved her using a u-haul with a car trailer, my car on the trailer. She drove her car. Then I eventually drove home.
I also moved myself a couple summers ago, this included car engines and all sorts of big stuff like engine hoists and compressors. Take your time, use your head, and know what you can not do. I was able to cheat using the engine hoist to load stuff and then I dismantled it so it was last on and first off.
Good luck, and if you land in lower ohio and buy beer after wards I will help unload some of the stuff. So as someone mentioned, let others know what you plan and know to ask for help.

Before you move or hire someone to move you, think about this: I just saw either last weekend or weekend before last, on NBC or CBS newsmagazine about scam movers and how the Federal Dept. of Transportation is supposed to regulate them and don't.
They are a bunch of gangsters and con men ripping off people. Check it out thouroghly. Personal experience, I saved my aunt about $2000 when the moving co. would not unload her belongings till paid. That's when I realized Sam Colt had truly made men equal. So please check out the movers.
