I am thinking about picking up a crossbow this year. I don't want the cheapest...but certainly not the most expensive. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

I have been hunting with a crossbow for a couple of years and killed 8 deer so far. I bought a used Excaliber Exomax "package" for $520 shipped. It included the Exomax, a dozen bolts, 6 Bolt Cutter broadheads, and the cocking and take down ropes.

The Excalibur crossbows are really nice & accurate. The price retrieverman told you about is great!

You could also look into getting a Barnett. They're a little cheaper & good quality. I see them on Craigslist all the time for 300 or less. The Quad 400 & Revolution are good models.

I have an Excalibur Equinox & it's the finest crossbow I've ever had the pleasure of shooting. It was pricey though.

I shot a Parker crossbow a couple of weeks ago and liked it alot. Its the only crossbow I've ever shot, so I have nothing to compare it too.

I bought a new wicked ridge crossbow this year and like it much more then the barnette it replaced. Its lighter faster and more accurate.

just got a tenpoint titan HLX scoped package for $450 delivered from Cabellas. very accurate, very fast, easy to use, great reviews.

Pick one that is a good deal and go from there. I have a Barnett Quad 400 and have taken two so far this year. I will be purchasing another one. Not due to lack of performance. It's to heavy and bulky for anything other than stand hunting. I'm leaning towards getting a recurve crossbow to cut weight and overall size. The Quad 400 is very fast and accurate. I was hesitant after reading bad reviews but I haven't had any issues with mine.
