Crystal Ball on Guns-the Future

Hmph. I'm starting to think we may see a radical change - back to the future.

For defensive guns, 9mm has emerged as the dominant caliber. Polymer frames are both light and cheap...but the striker-fired actions are famed for triggers ranging from moderate to very poor. Steel sub-frames for the lockwork will become normal (see SIG for examples). Watch for a cocked-and-locked pseudo-1911, with a polymer frame.

That being said, I think there might be a resurgence of the classic shooting disciplines. Including black powder. People are starting to realize that there is no way to master the pistol other than pushing your accuracy to the limit.

I am hoping for steel framed modular designs with the polymer grips similar to some of the new stuff. It makes polymer a little more attractive to me when you can buy a new poly grip for a few dollars. Seems like the companies are putting out attention getters here and there so I am hoping magnum power autoloaders make a comeback. 10mm is looking good ....finally. What we really need is an 11 or 12mm.

probably more "revolutionary" optics and crazy colors. I also expect the trend of rushing pistols to market without proper testing will continue. Ammo price increases will most likely have rimfire explode even more. stuff like the LCP22 and Keltec p17 were pretty big sellers last year from what I have seen and the Ruger wrangler was a hit. More ugly paintjobs as well... burnt blueberry captain crunch cerakote and battle worn pink purple people eater will most likely be the hot sellers for finishes. New plastic holsters with thermal venting and anti print cloaking technology allowing one to carry concealed while giving the appearance of more normal blobs of insulation or fat around the midsection. Oh and recalls.... lots and lots of recalls... maybe even an industry award dedicated to the most recalls from a company. Most likely lots of QC problems with ammo as well while they increase prices for it. More rediculous gun channels on youtube as well adopting the Jackass style of content.

The talking heads will talk because some people take stock in it. I predict little change apart from more ammo availability. So many new owners have likely been turned off by the disruptions that we’ll be back to the old normal by the midterms.

I bet we see more to more and more polymer type guns and with that more and more polymer cartridge cases. I believe there are some polymer cases out there now and with more and more metal restrictions and advancements polymer will be easier to make.

The younger folk are not too keen on cleaning and maintaining guns as maybe we are and a lot that I know wouldn't mess with a black powder gun for long. They will buy it out of nostalgia shoot a few times and never again. Same with the higher end 1911 the video makers are selling. I just don't see younger folks spending that much.

Some noted polymer guns triggers are poor. Some yes but heck my pps and my lowly Taurus tx22 have excellent triggers. Not match high end 1911 for sure but none the less they are very good.

A big driver is baby boomers too, those are the folks with the desire and want for a "metal" gun. But like we all know there are less and less of that great generation every day.

Alien.
DWX.
A small carry version of a CZ Shadow 2?

Less coatings. More melonite nitride.

More and more polymer pistols might actually come with decent sights. 3 dots should be long gone.

Will 2011's evolve? Most are competition only pistols due to the $6000 prices they command. Do any of those guys want to make a combat oriented version?

The Staccato is the only combat/carry 2011 out there, and it might stay that way. Because it's not really any better than a Glock.

1911's won't change. It's over for them. What you see, is all they'll ever be.

As far as 10 round mags. Never going to happen. The consensus in red states is that if the gov't abandons us, we'll survive as outlaws. Be ungovernable.

Some cavemen were probably pissed off when the wheel and the fork were invented. And then some became apoplectic when they were made with plastic.

A spare wheel, even if it's made out of plastic, is better than not carrying one at all. But a plastic fork is worse than useless for eating a brontosaurus steak.;)
