I ordered a Colt 6720 on 12/21/12 from a major distributor here in Texas. I had 4 co-workers also order Colt's but they ordered the 6920 Magpul versions a day or two earlier than I did. Two of them received their 6920's on 1/29 and the other two received their's in mid February. One of the guys even received his second one a week later (they have a one AR order at a time policy).

I called the distributor in mid February and was told they just haven't received any 6720's so I ordered an additional 6920 since those seemed to be flowing in and probably where Colt was concentrating their production. I have called them weekly but they keep saying they have no idea, that when they come in they just arrive in batches. My question is this, does anyone else have a Colt on backorder or have any experience with their backorder time?

I am in purchasing for a living and I just cannot fathom a company that has no idea of leadtime or Promised Dates for their products. At work I always have an approximate idea. The last Representative (a month ago) did tell me that I was number 47 on backorder for the 6720 and number 206 for the 6920. That was encompassing all 3 of their Texas locations backorders so I figured it would probably be in the next shipment. Am I dreaming that it will be soon or am I in for a long(er) wait? :banghead:

The gun industry is run by gun enthusiast first and foremost. Most of those enthusiasts running the companies really don't know about logistics and using technology to help streamline their operations. The only one Icahn think of that is big enough and relatively coordinated enough is Ruger.

I completely understand the current 'gun grab'. I just posed the question to see if I am getting strung along and if anyone else is having similar experiences with a Colt backorder. I wouldn't be as concerned about it if I didn't have four people that I know order within 2 days of me and they have had theirs for a month and a half. I went with Colt for the quality, but also figuring that if anyone could keep up with the rush it would be them.
