Thought this would be interesting.

This is like the 9mm thread, but just wondering what the "budget" .45s are that aren't too shabby.

:p

Add a $100 and your choices really get a lot bigger.
I would say for new under $400 go with RIA.

Might want to look at the EAA/Tanfoglio range, used less than $400 is achievable, NIB up to the 500'ish range or less

3rd vote for RIA 1911A1. Excellent pistol at an excellent price. On sale at my favorite gun shop for $379, this week only.

I like the 1911 platform because you can do so much with it but, that said, the Bersa 45UC is supposed to be good.

I may have to pick up a RIA at those prices.

Rock Island Armory G.I./1911A1 whatever they call it it's a
great value for the money and upgrades abound, besides RIA
having a great customer service rep. as well.

Yeah Best under $500 NIB would open it up to a wider
range of makes & platforms.
Given the extra $100 = RIA 1911 Tactical
Dovetailed Novak style sights, beavertail
grip safety, skeletonized trigger and hammer
beveled mag well entrance.
All that costs way more than doing it to a GI

I believe I've seen a FNP 45 new for $425. As others said, Rock Island Armory gets a big thumbs up.

Rock Island Tactical model, the best bang for the bucks in 1911's, IMO. Get one from Centerfire Systems.

I'll have to say the fullsize Witness. It will out shoot most 1911's right out of the box. Although I have seen FEG ACK's on "Auctionarms.com" from time to time for $285.

I like the Witnesses a lot, are they too big for CC though?

I'm really liking the idea of having a 1911, and RIA sounds good.
edit. Looked at high standard's website...they are like $500+

Ria is still in the mix though. what do you guys think between the CSP Compact ($419.99), Commander($369.99), and Tactical ($399.99)?

I like how the commander has a 4" barrel, but it doesn't have the novak sights or anything. Tactical is nice too, but 5" is a bit long. CSP just looks..small.
I'd mostly use for range or carry (IWB summer, OWB winter)

Take a look at the American Classic, Metroarms, it's a philipino frame with a milled slide that fits as tight as any Kimber. They are much more solid guns than the RI, or CD armscor, and are running at the same price as of now.
