I've got a 681-1 L-frame 357, with a 4" barrel.

I'd like to have the barrel cut back to 3", and still keep the roll marks centered. I also want a 7-shot cylinder installed, and a satin bead blast finish.

After doing a search on another forum, I don't think I'd like S&W to do the work. The QC/QA appears to be hit or miss.

Who would you genlemen recommend to do such a job?

Will the price of such alterations, make it more cost effective to hunt down a PC 681-4 instead? I've seen those on the auction boards going for $1000 and up. Thanks for your advice. TJ

Sounds very expensive, would likely be cheaper in the long run to sell and swap for exactly what you want.

I know it's not a fixed sight which might be critical to you, but 3" 686 7 shot models go for well under $700 on Gallery of Guns
