Well, on my near no money limit 1911.

at least 8 mags
Ambi-safety (tactical rounded)

Full tactical rounding as I hate sharp edges.
Nice grips (wood of course)

I have three Ed Browns and the first two were standard Special Forces models. When I ordered the third, a Special Forces Light Rail (now discontinued it seems) I figured I'd add some non-standard features. Although I wouldn't call it a true custom 1911 I'm pleased with how it turned out. My only complaint about Ed Brown pistols is the Gen III coating which isn't particularly durable compared to Dan Wesson's duty coat. I recently sent one of my Kimbers to Severns Custom for his Hard Hat treatment and may end up sending all three Ed Browns to him as well.

The pistol below was about $2,700 so add another $350 for Dave Severns' Hard Hat treatment and that puts the pistol at around $3,050. That's about as much as I'd ever pay for a 1911. Anyway, here are the features I ordered.

  • SF-SS-G3-LR-A (Special Forces Light Rail, stainless, Gen III coating)
  • 25lpi checkering on the front strap and MSH (not SF chainlink)
  • Ambidextrous thumb safety
  • Maxi-Well
  • Front cocking serrations
  • Extended magazine release
  • Serrated slide stop
  • Rear 10-8 site and front night sight
  • 8-pack magazine

Fusion slab sided commander in 9mm with a straight trigger and STI square hammer. Throw some Heinie's on it, then send it off to Chuck Rogers for a golf ball treatment, and dehorn. I like simple.

My dream would definitely be a frankengun of sorts. A commander length with full rail, polished chrome, covered with scroll engraving.

I'm going through that decision process, it's difficult to find a custom tactical commander in 10mm.

Hopefully by summer it'll be delivered and after a rigorous 1,000 round break in test, become a daily carry at my place. It will look something like this;

RichKIONT-CommXL-4xxx.gif

Overview;
1911 custom Fusion T-Comm Pro Series Elite 10mm, Black Shield frame/slide, stainless small accent parts.

Fine rear slide serrations
Top slide diamondline serrations
10-8 rear sight, tritium Trijicon front sight
Browning Hi-Power press check slide cut
Trigger job 3.75-4.25lb clean let off
Pro Series commander hammer, silver
Pro Series K trigger, silver, light adj
416 stainless match grade, commander ramped 10mm barrel with fitted link
Barrel flush cut and target crown
Thick flange chamfered bushing
High ride beavertail
Magwell stainless mainspring housing, chain link
Chain link front strap
Extended tactical thumb safety
Serrated slide stop, forged sure lock
GI guide rod system
Slightly extended combat mag release checkered
C'sink frame and flush cut slide stop pin
AAA+ Cocobolo white Ranger grip, my choice at end of build
Polish sides of slide - apply Black Shield coat
Brush polish small accent parts
Radius dehorn all edges for carry
Extra spring kit for set up
4 additional magazines

This should make for a nice IWB carry while working at my place, town carry, in the saddle or on the tractor. Those 200gr WFNs are equilizers for anything we have in these parts, including an increase in hog activity. :)

I can come up with custom configurations all day long, but what I would love right now is:

Caspian Commander Carbon Steel Frame and Slide (Series 80) w/ external extractor
Ed Brown Barrel
Ed Brown Strong Side tactical safety
Harrison Custom Novak Cut rear sight (black)
Front Night Sight
Harrison Custom retro ignition set
Custom grip safety (standard 1911A1 grip safety with a memory bump added)
Smith and Alexander flat checkered mainspring housing (or an Ed Brown bobtail, not sure yet)
10-8 Performance flat trigger
Nighthawk extended mag release
VZ grips
All small parts from Ed Brown, Nighthawk, etc...

I'm bored and feel like experimenting...

I would love to have an Armand Swenson built Colt. I have Behlert and Clark customs and a Swenson gun would be the icing on the cake that is my collection.

For a new build I'd like two Colts, one built by Dane Burns and one by Chuck Rogers.
