Can anyone please post pictures and descriptions of their Custom Model 10's? I just bought one and wanted some ideas of how nice one could look? Mine is a HB all stock.
Please even pictures of cusom aftermarket grips would be nice...
Thanks,
ZVP

For a while around here these guns were a great buy.... tons of Model 10, 15 and 64's flooded the local market from Security and armored car companies. Most sold very quickly in the $200-$300 price range.

My Model 10 is still stock... I do have plans for it.... other projects have my attention (and $$$) at the moment. When I do get around to this Model 10, I'm going to have the barrel cut to 3", slab side the barrel, dovetailed front nite sight (or brass bead), bead blasted blue or parked finish and I really, really like the idea of a 9mm Par revolver with moon clips (my 625 is so awesome)... so sending it to Pinnical for the multi caliber conversion might be in the cards as well.

Back in 2008 I bought a trade in Model 15 and had a limited amount of top notch work done to it. We it keep ready as our bump in the night house gun and the wife really loves to shoot it.... so much so it's become "her gun" for some time. It was in pretty rough shape cosmetically when purchased but mech solid. THR's own "Revolver Armorer" Matt Almeada parkerized it, Champered and polished the chambers and tuned the action up a little. It wears a set of Kim Ahrends "Slim Size Target" stocks in Cocobolo.

Oh, I wish I had a picture, or still had the gun! While working for a department that had not yet shifted to autos, we worked in an area that appeased the political trend of still using the .38 Special. I had a sweet pre WWII Model 10 S&W with the long action made into a 4.5" barreled PPC gun, with short Bomar rib sights. Then the gun was electroless nickel plated, with the trigger high polished and contoured. It hand sandblasted ebony fingergroove grips. A stunning looker, and it shot like a dream. Then we went to S&W 6946's... :barf:...and I sold the gun as I couldn't use it on the job anymore. Work was done by Tom Volquartsen.

...
Dammit, having problems posting pictures of my first model 10
6" custom slab sided heavy bull barrel, bomar rib, tuned action
pristine, for $360 via online auction

Thanks guys!
I am so excited about mine!
The seller brought some ammo to the range and insisted that I shot it and inspected it well. It's a jewel! Some holster wear but mechanically it's perfect, tight where it needs to be and free wheeling as required! I think the revolver just did holster time.
It;s a British Constabuarity used surplus sale gun. For some reason a lot was sold to the Brits for a special purpose Bobby carry, and they sold off the lot. My friend got one had it for deverak years and told me he'd let it go reasonable! I had the money in his hand in seconds!

Today trying to follow the law we took it to a dealer for proper transfer. It's going to be a nother long 10 days... Hey I wanna do it all legal- like! I try to follow all laws.
Daarn after shooting it I am even more excited! It handled 158gr handloads like a champ
1 Good firing pin hits on all cylinders. a light drag mark on the cylinder The lock-up is tight everywhere Boy it was sure nice havng the money right on me! Had to raise all the kids, retire and NOW I finally have gun money. What do you think about that?

What do I think about that? I think that's one well-deserved gun. Kudos, and enjoy! :D

Most customization of the Model 10 was for PPC & target use.
Other than aftermarket grips & possibly shortening the barrel, or plating it, most people don't do much with them.

What's freewheeling?
And unless your local law prohibits direct face to face sales, you would have been better off not running it through a dealer.

This was my 'NYPD' service revolver. S&W.\ 38 cal Mdl 10-6. Manufactured in 1965, I came into possession in 1966 and it stayed with me till 1988 when I sold it. I traced it down again in 2010 and was able to buy it back. During it's journey through 5 different hands, it was Parkerized. It'll stay this way, no intentions of changing it.

I have a pencil barrel from the early 80s, added a Tyler T-Grip to the round-butt gripframe, that's it.
Nice little gun, about 95%.

(Bought the 1980-issue Model 64 HB when I retired, but prefer the lighter M10 pencil.)

9mm operates at much higher pressure than .38spl. Would this conversion be safe, or would you only be able to do this on a .357mag revolver that's heat treated for higher pressures?

I'd love to have the skinny-barrel version in mint condition. After that, I'd like very much to find a vintage '72 Model 13. I've always considered that gun the PERFECT home defense pistol. You load it, put it in a drawer and you're set to go. Cops carried those guns for twenty years, then retired with them.

With all the modern barrel underlugs, I've gotten to really like the skinny barrels. They also look cool, like the barrel on my Model 60.

Actually a mod 12 (alloy frame "K" frame). I have 3 or 4 mod 10's set up the same way, don't have decent photos however.

custom ppc gun I scored off of an online auction a while ago.
Has a custom bull barrel and bomar rib, tuned action.

Hmmm. Looks like we still need some pics of a duty customized M10. Here's my old Model 10 snub, worked over by Cylinder and Slide in Fremont, NE. Full action hone (DAO, short fall hammer, lighten pull, tighten up timing and lockup, adjust gap), polish/radius trigger, chamfer cylinder chambers, cut dovetail and install gold bead sight, set for POA/POI with 158+P, round grip butt.

Very accurate, at least in terms of inherent mechanical accuracy, just a tack driver on a good (shooter) day.
