I am looking to build a rifle based on the 300 h&h and need a custom reamer made, does anyone know of a good reamer maker I should get ahold of

In the 1920s a custom gun shop made a round called the 300 Hoffman magnum, basically a 300 h&h with a 20 degree shoulder. I want to lessen the taper on that round and neck it up to 338

Some of these places will rent you a reamer. Provided you don't damage it, it's much cheaper than buying a reamer you'd use only once.

My last reamer was made by JGS:

and that was based on my smith's recommendation. Zero issues with it and it took about 6 weeks to get. Cost was $205, $7.00 shipping with one bushing included. Key was getting the diameter of the bore for bushing fit prior, although most barrel guys have bushings on hand.

Unless you're truly designing something new, or have a specific OAL with a specific bullet in mind I'd look at renting IF possible. Add in the cost of custom dies etc. and the overall project gets pretty pricey. My last "custom" rebarrel cost a little over $1200 when the blank, chambering, reamer, dies, gauges were figured in.

I second Chuck's opinion JGS. Some folks have no issues with PT&G but I've read a lot that have. The gunsmith that built 2 custom rifles for me also has a high opinion of JGS. I tend to trust him.

PTG is my go-to for purchasing, 4-D for rentals

Why not just go with a production .338 cal magnum, save yourself a pile of money and headaches? Last I checked, your custom reamer is gonna run in the $400 range, and then you have to wildcat with brass from a nearly obsolete cartridge. I mean, whatever floats your boat, but there are very few wildcats that make sense to fuss with these days, and the .338 class is pretty well covered from the .338 Federal to the .338 RUM or Lapua.

I have built a few production caliber guns and wanted to try something different, case forming and load development from scratch. That is why I would like to try a true wildcat

I can understand that, just don't see much point in a wildcat that does nothing a factory loaded commercial round won't. I'm building a 6mm-06 AI, but there is no factory 6mm round which will equal it, especially using a 1:8 28" barrel. Of course, the price of that performance is I'll have to set the barrel back > every 1,000 rounds. Point being, wildcats are still worthwhile if they offer something substantial over commercial cartridges, but rather silly if they don't. Be sorta like mixing & matching Dodge, Ford and Chevy parts in a small block engine which will only run on home brew ethanol but performs no better than a plain old 360, 351W or 350.

If you want a big thumper, why not something like the .358 STA?

I want to build a 338 because bullets are easily available for me, so I think I change direction a little and go with a 338 edge build.
