Just got my SP101 back from Gemini Customs :D

The cool factor is really high, and it shoots!!!
(just wanted to brag a little bit)

Ric, great looking revolver. Where did you get the stocks ? If I could find grips
like that I would still have my 3 incher.

More photos please

I want one! How long of a wait for it from Gemini?

They do nice work don't they?

My gun is due back from Gemini next week.

I believe those are Badger grips. Gemini sells Badger grips, although they have use Eagle grips in the past as well.

Only thing that bugs me about the Badger grips on mine is they absolutely rule out every single speed loader I've tried except speed strips...which aren't exactly speedy. They kind of even get in the way of extracted cartridges.

I'm leaving them on because I rarely if ever carry extra ammo with this gun anyhow...but I am a little puzzled why they are that way. The extra meat on the grips that is in the way is not really doing anything for a RH shooter...maybe it's needed for leftys?

Here's a couple more:
Gemini does a great job. Turn around time was less than 4 weeks.
Action job, Badger grips, bead blast, chamfer charge holes, cool porting, polish trigger, excellent results.

Ric.. cool looking revo! I'll bet it's totally transformed your SP. I especially like the high-polish treatment on the trigger and hammer. Looks like Gemini is doing some really cool things with SP's.

Thank you for starting this thread... it has prompted me to get off my butt and do something cool to my stock 3" SP, which doesn't really excite me at the moment, so I decided to send it off to David Clements for:

•hammer bobbing
•charge hole chamfering
•trigger polishing
•action tuning
•slab siding barrel & removing markings
•bead blasting (I find the bead-blasted guns tend to show scuffs, scratches, and dings much more than the standard finish does, but they do look cool when they're in great condition. Unfortunately, it's impossible to "touch-up" a bead-blasted finish oneself when boo-boos occur, as you can so easily do with a standard brush-polished SS finish.)

Personally, I prefer non-ported defense guns, so I will omit that option on my gun.

These photos (source unknown, or I would give credit... I found them on the internet and enhanced them slightly) are illustrative of what David is going to do to the barrel, hammer, and finish on my 3" SP-101... I really love the treatment on the barrel and will probably send my 3" GP-100 for the same work!

Nice looking SP101s, to be sure. I bought a 2½" model a few years ago on a whim - saw it on a local dealer's table at a gun show; it looked barely used & the price was right so I picked it up. Judging from the relatively stiff trigger pull, it was barely used!

And - it's still barely used. I used it a little when teaching my daughter how to shoot. I wanted to send it down to Teddy Jacobson (Actions by T) to have it smoothed out, but when I looked into that recently found he had semi-retired. I know Weigand doesn't work on them anymore either.

Was Gemini good to work with? I'd like to get my SP101 set up a little better for OWB CCW use.

The folks at Gemini actually trained with and took over Weigands Ruger revolver package work...with Jack's approval as I understand it. The Weigand site is actually what refferred me forst to Gemini. They are great folks to deal with.

Another question in regards to the Badger Grips:

How do they compare to the stock grips for recoil? Is the gun controlled any better, and how about the recoil energy transfered to your palm? The stock grips are pretty comfortable in recoil, I think the rubber soaks up quite a bit of it.

I may just have to order up a set and see how I like them!

Ric

I had the hammer bobbed on my 3†also and added CT grips, but don’t care for porting.
Your custom job looks very nice however.

I also like your sig line. How true!

The Badger grips change the angle a lot, but for the better I think. As far as recoil, nothing really beats the stock grips..they are about the best there is...just not too pretty. You can get wood inserts to replace the plastic ones to pretty up the stock grips. The shape and angle of the Badgers makes recoil pretty tolerable.

I bet a high speed photo set of a round coming out of the barrel would look something like three smokestacks on a luxury liner!
