CVA Bobcat Recoil Pad

My son (11 yo) purchased a CVA Bobcat a few weeks ago as it was the least expensive muzzloader we could find. Took it to the range and he really loved it. However, he never used more than 60 gr because he felt that was enough recoil. He would like to get a recoil pad for it. I checked the midsouth web site and I believe the small pachmyar slip-on recoil pad would work. However, I just noticed that there is a butt plate screwed onto the end of the synthetic stock. Does anyone have any experience or know of a pad that can be attached in it's place that won't require a lot of fitting. Also, has to be relatively inexpensive as this is his gun and he has to buy whatever he needs for it.

A buttpad or padded buttplate is only going to add more length to the stock, which might make the length of pull too long for your 11 year old, (14 to 15 inch L.O.P.)
You might be better off with a wood stock (hard to find) or adding some weight to the semi-hollow plastic stock with modeling clay from Wal-mart.
More than 60 grains of fffg or Pyrodex P for paper target shooting within the range limitations of the Bobcat probably isn't really necessary anyway.
Or maybe consider having him wear a hunting vest (or other clothing) to protect his shoulder in the meantime, just as if he was out hunting.
An inexpensive cushioned shotgun buttplate shouldn't be too hard to find at a place like Brownell's, or any gunsmithing shop might have a used one. Fitting it is probably the tougher part of the job though.

My thought was to pull the factory buttplate and replace it one of the "fitted" type. Just didn't know which one would fit as the Bobcat was not listed, and they did not give dimensions for them.

I'll take a look at the modeling clay and see what he wants to do.
